New Tamiya paint equivalents...
Posted by Vne on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 5:36 AM

Hi there Gents,

I used to post as Tacan, but that account expired or the password is wrong or something.. cause I cant log in anymore..

I am currently working on the ICM Spitfire XVIe... and I need to get some Tamiya paint equivalents-

I have used the 1/32 Tamiya Spitfire IXc paint charts as a basic reference for the colors I want, and I would prefer to use my airbrush over their AS colors.

I am specifically looking for the Humbrol equivalents of XF-81, XF-82 and XF-83. These are new paints that havent even been brought into South Africa yet, and the supplier doesnt know when to expect them.

Any help would be much appreciated...

In the Defenders of the Reich III Fw-190' Group build a few members posted links for me to convert paint. Here is one and I will try and remember the second.

The second chart is excellent and should have your information.

Search: IPMS Stockholm the results should show a color chart on the second link.

For an RAF Mk.IX (or a later XVI), I would assume the following:

Upper:

Ocean Grey  106
Dark Green   30  (close but not exact?)

Lower:

Medium Sea Grey 165

Thanks for the quick replies guys....

My biggest problem is that most of my reference pics of the Spitfire I want to model, are all old and have different light levels... so I've battled to gauge what colors to use..
