Very nice work, Owl! I have a soft spot in my skull for these things. My Dad was in Bomber Flight Test at Wright Patt in the late 60's. I fondly remember going to the base with him and running in and out of the KC-135's, B-47's, B-57's, T-39's and such. My favorite was the KC-135, especially when they came back from TDY to Hawaii. They always smelled of pineapple. :-)
Garylee, I'll be making a roadtrip this weekend.

G. Beaird,
Owl, great model you've got there! I've got the big-nosed Snoopy version of the kit in my stash waiting for me to attack it. I hope it turns out as nicely as yours.
I couldn't tell from you pictures but did you reinforce the wings to prevent the droop?
Thanks!
Eric
I actually worked on the "Hog" with this tail number when I was stationed at Kadena AB, Okinawa Japan from 1988-1990.
Nice job on the model.
Thank you for all the compliments!! I really do appreciate it.

Now that I'm here, where am I??
Nice build. I always enjoy seeing large models that people build. Especially when they turn out great.

Hey Owl,
Absolutely awesome build!! I just read the entire thread and I thoroughly enjoyed your photos and also your comments as you built that great looking aircraft. That's one of my favorite parts of this forum, seeing photos of other people's work, especially when it's as high quality as yours. I know this is a little late, but you mentioned doing some creative clamping so I thought I'd pass along a tip. Here's a photo of a 4 inch bar clamp that's on sale right now at Harbor Freight (Lot No. 46805). They have them for just one dollar each, no coupon required. Hobby Lobby has the exact same clamp for EIGHT BUCKS EACH!! They make great fusalage clamps, and at that price I picked up a bunch of them and think I might even go back for more. The sale ends July 31st.
Once again, I really enjoyed seeing your build. It came out great and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

Owly work!!! great finish
rtoo speed makes ugly results, too relax don't make results
and the beast is vanquished!! I've finally finished up the last bits of the RC, and IM calling her done!It was also difficult to find a good place to take photographs, this was too big for my normal spot!
Dunno where I will put it while I wait to send it to my grandfather, though.....
and of course I had to get a pic of it in flight!
Excellent build Owl......... and in record time!
Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom. Peace be with you.
On the Tarmac: 1/48 Revell P-38
In the Hanger: A bunch of kits
Wow. Looking real nice there Owl!!
yes, bsyamato, the kit is a RC-135V.
I'm slowly inching closer to completion! The decals in the kit went on well, and I had surprisingly little trouble with the long black stripe on the fuselage. However, the wing-walk decals gave me fits. The included decals didnt include them, so I had to source the black strips form my spares, and 1) they didnt want to come up off the backing, 2) were rather brittle, and 3) kept sliding out of place! I had to work on them in sessions because I would get too frustrated.
Now, all I have to do is final touch-ups and painting, then attach all the antennas!
nice progress on the beast, the particular version is the v?
SmartGambler what do you use to fill seams?
what do you use to fill seams?
I use red Bondo glazing putty. You can thin and smooth it down with acetone nail polish.
I used up the rest of a Testor's rattle can spraying this beast. While you can't do precise detail work with these cans, the coverage is very nice!
fun with masking
ready for decals!
One entire top shelf at my local hobby shop is devoted to thses hugeeeeeeeeeeee AMT kits ... I keep asking her what the heck she was thinking when she ordered them. Lord knows I don't have anyplace to put something that gigantic, but it looks like you're taming the fit issues in fine style.
Wow that thing is huge!! Looking good!
Looking great! Love the chipmunk cheeks on the RC
after puttying and sanding, with some more putty and sanding on the side, I think I've got this beast ready for paint!!
