Would be neat to build an rc model to launch when it is on the water. There have been 1/72 scale rc models built. Check out this link. Great work on the Kingfisher Big Smile

Nice !

Modern RC has been a big advance over my old Lindberg Destroyer's CAM pattern guidance system.

Any chance of loading up the "ash cans" with "Na" and doing anti-sub "spreads" ? Wink

Might get a few fish from the effort.

That Revell (Revell of Germany) and Revell USA (Revell/Monogram) are two different companies.. They don't talk to each other anymore...

Well I learn something every day. Stop learning, stop living.

According to microworks.net and I will of course look beyond, six ships in the Fletcher class were:

"In an effort to provide the fleet with more planes, six Fletchers were ordered modified with a catapult in place of no.3 5" gun. This effort, soon rendered obsolete by a combination of uselessness and difficulty with the handling (which BTW is why Hans launched wife no. 3- editor) , was reduced to three ships in early 1943, the decision having been made to retain the removed no.3 gun in storage from quick "reassembly". Three ships were completed with a catapult and plane, and operated for a short while with them, until they, too, lost their equipment in October 1943.

And from wiki:

USS Pringle DD-477

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Pringle_%28DD-477%29

And for the third reference, here's a conversion in small scale:

http://modelingmadness.com/reviews/misc/ships/us/lyonsds.htm

The aircraft crane was not one of those efficient derrick affairs that cruisers and battleships had, but a kingpost and cargo boom.

Like I say, all new and good info.

well.. a small update... the single piece lower wing had to cut in two to fit in the fuselage , the resin bits overfilled the wing holes.. , so I split it and cut it to fit...[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

I was wondering how the DD in the water would handle the extra weight of the Kingfisher model - would that make it too "tender" or top-heavy? Although being plastic/resin I guess it's not THAT much extra weight. It's just that it sits up so high ...

Some more work down..

the interior received a quick wash to offset the interior green.. I wasn't able to get good pics.. so.. here we are now... [Close up of rear gunner's deck Photobucket:550:0]

Over head shot of the interior...Photobucket:550:0]

the spine split is intentional at the moment.. it will be closed up and card stock used to fill in the gap around the pilots rear wall.

and... more last night.. opened up a hole thru the bottom of the cowl thru the float support and drilled two holes in the bottom of the float for the wires to exit.. Fed the wires from the bottom of the float thru the cowl.. then I will solder them to the motor.. the float ends will be soldered to pins that will protrude from the float for contacting the power. Now I've added the cowling with the motor. The wires thru the float have had brass pins soldered to them and them the pin pushed into the float and then epoxied to hold them. Also the antennae and pitot tube have been added.

You can just see the pins if you follow the 8" line up to the float. [View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

Thanks for looking !
