Excellent! I have this big floater in my stash and it looks phenomenal!

I also have to say...props to you for taking on a big project like this. I'll look forward to providing constructive critiques where I can!

Here we go...

 Big box with 192 parts. Skill level 5, which in Revell speak means... "No Dan, this one isn't for you!"

Here's something I like to do when starting a build. I give my work space a quick clean, cut out the box art and place it under the glass I build on. It keeps me inspired during the build.

Here's the box contents. The only after market parts I'll be using are seat belts by Edwards. These say they are for Trumpeters Arado 196 A3 but I hope being the same scale and airplane, they'll work for my Revell.

 Just looking the kit and instructions over right now and will probably start on it tomorrow. I'll keep you posted every two or three days with progress reports.

An ambitious and healthy challenge for you! I can tell like Doogs already did that the kit itself is an excellent choice. Not a two evenings and youre done kind of deal but accurate and well detailed nevertheless. The trumpy belts should sork out fine.

Made a start on her myself for Doogs, weathering GB...had to break off but its still sitting there looking at me

Using alot of revell paints here so if you need help converting paintnumbers just give me a yell

Seat belts are seat belts. They should work just fine. 

Weird thing though is that Trumpeter doesn't make a 1/32 Ar 196, unless my memory and Google totally fail me. They do make 1/350 and 1/700 kits, but if they're making seatbelts for those, my mind reels!

Agree. I've never heard of a Trumpeter Arado in 1/32. I checked my records and my order was the seat belts for the Revell Arado but this is what I received. Hadn't even really noticed until I took the photos last night.

Maybe the manufacturer was so impressed with the kit they thought that it couldn't be revell..... The only other 1/32 arado i know of is a really expensive resin job, not by trumpy.

My theory is they probably have some sort of drop down system in whatever database they use to manage products, and somebody probably accidentally selected Trumpeter instead of Revell.

Awww, man.... I'm touched...... . I've never had anyone actually take my advice before about a kit to build. Cool!!

Ill be watching this with interest. Im thinking about getting this kit myself. May have to dispose of a few of my older crappier kits first though lol. Or find somewhere else to display them.

Here's a shot of the PE seat belts. Although it says Trumpeter, the instructions inside call out for the Revell piece numbers so I guess I'll be OK.

Spent most of the afternoon looking for, saving and studying all the photos I could find. Especially of the cockpit since I'll be starting there.

 Just noticed I'll be needing a couple of 1/32 swastikas as they aren't included in the kit.

You might be able to just paint the swastikas. Being all straight lines, they shouldn't be too hard to mask and paint.

That is an issue with all, if not most european brands...no swastika's provided. Its a legal thing. Everytime i buy a kit that contains swastika's the importer took a big marker to blacken them or even cut them out the decal sheets....

Painting them on is a good option. If not, I have some decal paper around.

After studying photos on the internet, these will be the colors (with a few mixes) that I will be using for the interiors.

Here are the pieces for step 1 in the instructions. All flash and detachment points have been cleaned up and sanded.

Looking forward to this build! This one is on my " to buy" list.

Here's step 1 of the instructions finished. I'll be adding the PE belts next. The instructions say I should eliminate the molded in belts first but I have no way of doing that and for me at least, it would be a good way to screw up the seats. What do you think about that?

The best way to remove the molded-in seat belts is to use a Dremel tool with a decent grinding bit, and just grind off a little at a time. Once you're satisfied with it, use a small polishing bit in your Dremel tool, and smooth out the plastic. It's easier than it sounds. Just be careful, and do a little at a time, so you don't grind away too much plastic.

I managed to file off the ones on the back seat. Here's a few shots of where I am now. It's up to step 8 in the instructions. I tried wiring the control panel and hand painted it, used PE seat belts for the first time, used clear blue on the sights since it was invisible in transparent. Didn't use correct gauge wire it looks like but left it since it won't be able to be seen on finished model.

Used salt technique on cockpit floor. Dry brushed some of the structure due to wear and tear. Added a hint of rust since the was a sea plane and no matter how good the maintenance was, I imagined there had to be a least a little rust in it.

Going to have to stop for a couple of days, I'll be leaving on a business trip.

I have no idea where that small bump on the top edge of the seat came from but I've gotten rid of it now. Another thing I'll keep in mind for the next build is that I should have sanded down the top edge of the seat so that it would have been thiner and more to scale. Too late now though, I'd screw everything up if I tried to pull the seat out now.

I'm working on the fire wall now. Is that what it's called. Fire wall? Just like on cars?

Yup, firewall is what its called. Occasionally you hear about pilots "Firewalling" the throttles. means slamming it up as far as it will go. Aircraft have both firewalls and bulkheads. Firewalls usually around engines (like in cars) bulkheads usually behind the crew compartment separating the fuselage.

As for the bump on the seat, didnt even notice it. When you pointed it out i looked at it and thought it looked like an armour plate repair job.
