Great Models Webstore Liquidation
Posted by EBergerud on Thursday, March 22, 2012 7:17 AM

Great Models Webstore is being bought by Sprue and is liquidating a lot of stuff. The prices are excellent. And unless their computers are lying, they've got some things laying around you don't normally see. I just bought a Hasegawa Nate and a Raiden: each for about $25. A lot more on eBay. The in print kits are very cheap. Gotta keep that stash up to date.

Got me a good deal last week on a couple of armor kits that I had been looking at.

40% off is a good deal. I got the Skunk Global Hawk I've been eying for a long while, along with a Tamiya He.162, a couple Academy P-38Js and some Fightertown decal sheets.

Yes, indeed. I picked up the Dragon Junkers ju 88pP-1 Tank Buster. Not something that as on my radar but it was a good deal, it was available and it's cool. Also tagged Tamiya 1/35 Tiger I Mid Prod. Definitely needed one of those in my stash. I can honestly say that I'm also not done yet. More goodies to be had.

I managed to snag an Iwata airbrush and PE Bending tool along with other accessories.  I imagine many people have taken advantage of the sale; Great Models is typically quick with shipping orders but my status still states in stock after requesting shipping late last week.

Personally I've got my fingers crossed. Two of the kits I ordered I thought were eBay only. My experience with GreatModels has been mixed. They've gotten things to my house - slowly - and never filled an entire order. That said, their web site was very specific about things being in stock. There's another place that reminds me of them: Roll Models. (It's both a net and a com: some interesting modeling articles on their home page.) Huge selection, very decent prices, one of the slowest places online and miserable customer support. That doesn't bother me if things get there. I've been collecting CDs far longer than models and have a stash well over 1,000. About a third of them came from Berkshire Record Outlet which has stunning prices and selection for classical and jazz. And if delivery is inside a month, you've done something to please Olympus. Doesn't surprise me that Sprue is thriving. Scale Hobbyist will beat them for prices (outside of Sprue sales items), but Sprue has outstanding selection, is very fast and I've never had an item in the cart that was out of stock. No wonder I've got about 60 kits unbuilt. Can't miss out on bargains can we?
