A mix of both MM enamels and MM metalizers.   I was trying to mask the different panels for various heat effects, but the tape stuck too well to the paints and is now a part of the paints itself.   It really is ugly.

I started it last year and it has no set end date, so jump on in.   My Su-27UB C got derailed by some bad paint issues around the engine panels.   I'm going to have to strip and sand them clean before I can move on with that one.

The GB is here:   http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/29/t/143692.aspx

If you build that Flanker anytime soon, I've got a Flanker family-only GB going.   I would be happy to have you join in.

The problem with intakes are the intake lips as they are very square. Also there are recessed details on them as well that are incorrect. Just bought the zactomodels intakes, radome, and canopy set for my trumpy su-27 flanker must admit it is def the best casting around. Very top notch quality

f14 tomcat freak- thaks for the heads-up on that.  Zactoman seems to be fixing a lot of Trumpeters molds- same intake issue with their 1/32 Su-27's.

What is off about the intakes?   I hadn't read of any issues with them...

Tojo72- I hope I can do all these parts the justice they deserve.   It should be a fun project in a short time frame.

Will be watching with great interest. I also have this kit but i M waiting for the redesigned intakes as the intakes with the kit are highly jacked! Zaactomodels will be releasing intakes shortly. Just my two cents

Dean, from what reviews I've read online, it seems to be a great kit and that Trumpeter has upped their game on this one.  I'm still a few days from actually beginning work, so we'll see.  But, if its anything like their other recent releases then it ought to be relatively easy to assemble.

Jester- "should be" is the operative phrase, lol.   I'll worry about storage later- (I'm trying to get some of my big birds into a local shop for display).  A friend just got the Airfix 1/24 Mosquito- now that's a BIG model.

This is going to be built for SchattenSpartan's US Carrier Aviation GB, so I can't start until 5/15 (but I can wash the resin and dream).

The kit- 1/32 Trumpeter F-14D Super Tomcat

inside the box

some of the Eduard PE that I intend to use (but not all of it due to the resin stuff)

the Aires cockpit set (this stuff is awesome, can't wait to start painting!)

the Aires wheel wells set (again, really high quality)

and the Aires/Wheeliant wheels set (so much better than the kit parts)

The kit comes with 3 different decal sets for VF-213 USS Carl VinsonVF-2 "Bounty Hunters" USS Constellation (2003) and VF-31 CAG bird USS Theodore Roosevelt.   I'm leaning towards the lo-vis scheme of VF-213, but I won't truly decide until I start slinging paint.

I really can't wait to tear into this project and see what I can do in the 6 month time frame allowed by the GB rules.   Stay tuned...
