Hey Chris, that looks pretty good to me. However I'm not very familiar with Japenese Aircraft. Thanks for taking the time to post.                     Bob

Ohhhhh, nice work!!! Love those old Arii/Otaki kits, maybe a bit old now but they still build up into great models.

Chris, great work!  The weathering is awesome!  I really like the rivet work!  Indifferent  How did you get such defined rivets?  Did you add them or was the kit pressed with them already?  Either way, great job all around!

Thanks everyone.

Arii/otaki Japanese aircraft kits have very fine recessed rivet detail, to bring this out I used soft gray pastel rubbed onto the surface, and the lower is belive it or not, a plain dark gray crayon!

Those are recessed rivets?  I thought they were like the Revell Smithsonian 1/32 P-47!  You know the one that you can cut yourself on the rivets!  So you just rubbed the pastel chalk over the holes and wiped the excess away?

Crayon!  No way!  Did you use the same technique as you did with the pastels or did you have to do some thing different with it being a crayon?  Thanks for sharing your tricks and tips Chris.  Great stuff man!

Regular old crayola crayon that your kids color with. Works like a charm too.

Hey Chris, this is great stuff!  So you just rubbed the pastels and crayon on and then wiped off the excess?  Thanks so much for sharing the pics of the build AND your great technique!

Yes eagle, just rub em on, and use a paper towel to remove the excess. It has advantages over oil washes which can be sloppy and cause unwanted effects, but of course oil washes have positives also.

Loom forward to seeing your Hellcat Mustang.
