Hello again everyone!
This time I've got a Tamiya 1/48 Mustang done up as a locally owned bird - the Stang Evil. The Stang Evil is the longest continuous single-owner Mustang in the world - having been owned by Mike Bertz since 1968. This aircraft was one of the last 200 D-models produced, and actually did serve as a COANG aircraft as it is marked up to be.
I have worked hands-on with this aircraft, just like I did with the T-6 in my other post, and as I am the type of modeler that typically stays close to personal subjects, I wanted to have a go at making a model of this beautiful plane that happens to also be the only Mustang I have sat in.
I did this immediately after the T-6 so my skill level on this was only slightly better - however, this time I had a bottle of Alclad Chrome, so I was able to properly do the skin of the aircraft, unlike the spinner on the T-6. There are actually very few inaccuracies in my build of this aircraft - mostly in the cockpit. I was VERY happy with how this turned out and it was, and still is, my favorite build. Wasnt happy with how the rudder turned out - decided to hand-paint the red trim and did not do a very good job. I may actually pull this off the shelf and re-do the rudder. Will probably re-do the olive drab anti-glare panel on the nose as well - some pretty rough paint there. I want to do this one again someday in 1/32 scale.
Did a few firsts on this one - first time using Alclad, first Tamiya kit, and first time using washes.
