I was hoping Revell would follow suit, but as there has not even been a hint of it, looks like it will have to be the ZM kit.

Thanks for posting, Phil.  It looks really nice; I prefer 1/48, tho.

Bish, you will not be disappointed with this kit at all. I have done a test build for them on the first test shot and it is fabulous! practically finished on the first test! plenty of detail.

The skin will be clear, not coloured and it will be full frame. Also the usual extras (metal barrels, figures, etched etc will be available.

Should be ready for October this year.

Also the Pfiel should be with us as well but not sure when. There will be 2 versions, single and twin seat kits.

Price for the Horten should be between the Invader and UHU, but it has not been fixed as of yet.

Having built the first test of the moulds for them I saw the possibilities of this kit and wrote quite a long report and included several ideas for the guys. Since then it has been a case of fine detailing.

The engines are practically miniatures of the real things and you feel that when they are done you could just add fuel and fire them up!

You need this kit, Bish, Trust me!

O I am sure its a great kit snap, and I have no problem paying that sort of money for a great kit. Its just all that interior stuff seems to a waste if your going to close it all up, or in the case of the clear skin, paint it. That's the main reason I went for Revell 219 rather than ZM.

I know, I am being picky, and I am sure there's a great market for this. Would be nice if they gave an option of a kit without all the wing braces and such.

Bish

My plan is build it but leave the skin off or clear to show all the internal structure. I agree its a shame to cover it all up

Phil, yes, that would defiantly be the sensible way to build it, problem is I don't like my kits like that, personal preference. ye, I know, I am hard to please Big Smile

Bish, I can see where you are coming from and understand.

But you must also appreciate that with this kit you have many ways of displaying it, frame only, clear skin, half painted aircraft with clear half so you can see half the airplane and completely built up and painted. It is your choice on how to display.

ZM are listening to their fans and customers and as you can see pushing to the limit what injection moulding can do.

With ZM kits, and yes, I am a total fan, you also learn about the aircraft as you built it as well as I do know that I sent copies of original Luftwaffe manuals to them to use in development of the UHU and look how that turned out!!

Treat yourself, Bish. Give this kit a chance, even if you paint it all up then YOU know what is underneath!

building a model is never a waste of time, it is always a learning curve and a constand improvement and development of skills and understanding.

I kind of like that ZM listened to the responses of the test shots and decided to offer the clear parts since surprisingly to me people were asking for it.

I am just not sure why people asked for it. Modeling at this level is usually much more advanced than if the type that buys say a clear version Revelllogram B-17. Trumpeter has been offering clear parts in some of their 1/32 kits for years. I've not once seen one built by  advanced modelers that were left clear. That is...the guys who are hyper detailing and throwing gobs of AM at 1/32 builds aren't resorting to clear plastic gimmicks. They work out ways to display detail in a realistic way.

it surprises me that people in the market for what's going to be an expensive and complicated build want the hokey clear plastic.

This kit looks epic. And I'm going to have to get one. I plan to do it in an assembly line diorama or something similar. That way i can show off the structure in a realistic way. I'm glad they are giving the consumer what they want. I'm not thrilled that I am going to have to deal with that brittle hard clear plastic....maybe there will be an option with regular parts. Don't hold your breath for a ZM boxing sans internals. That's completely outside their MO...but I wouldn't be surprised to see Revell do a stripped down version for a fraction of the cost for the more casual builder.

Snap,

I love your WIP shot.  That by itself would be a great addition to most modeler's collection.

Looking forward to the kit.

Unless snapdragonxxx is Naoki Kobayashi then that's not his build pic. That picture is from the ZM blog. Naoki Kobayashi built the test sample you can see here:

No I'm not Naoki!

Yes, that is his work and I put it up from the boss' blog to show just what can be done. Fantastic isn't it?

My test build was one of the first test shots from the mould and it was just to see if it went together and what there was to do on it.

My brief was to build the kit, no paint or anything and report back on what fitted and what didn't. also suggestions for improvement, detailing etc.

I will say now that this build will be a complex one and a challenge (but where is the fun in this game without that?). Those who get this kit will find it an accomplishment to build and finish, but it is aimed at all levels, as are all ZM kits, and no matter your level or skills your finished 229 will look good!

My advice with this kit will be not to dive in, but to spend lots of time with the manual and the sprues getting to know the parts and the manual. DON'T TAKE SHORT CUTS WITH THIS KIT!!! Think carefully and long before starting.

I always download the manual from the website too as I can make the diagrams bigger on the screen! Also when I visit the little mans relief cave then the reading matter taken will be the manual, magnifying class and a drink. I will be in there for a while!

I would like to spend time with Naoki and learn from him, but I don't think that will happen!

To date I think that this 229 with be ZM's best yet and raises the bar even more. Yes I will be ordering more than one and I look forwards to the Dornier.

What comes after the Dornier? Ah! errrrrr..... No Idea!!!

I would like the ME 262 (same engines as the 225) and a ME 410 but I would really like them to do a 1/32 DO-17!

You certainly make a good case. I will defiantly be giving it a lot of thought. Being a fan of all things Germans, this is of course something I could not let pass by.

I defiantly look forward to its release and seeing how it builds up.

I'd be tempted to build a second with wooden wing panels like a Me-163 I've seen

Which I think would really stand out

Phil. That's very much my idea. My thinking is to have one wing built up but with the wooden panels showing like the one in the link above. The other wing will be without the panels installed showing off an engine and the internal structure.

Now I don't want to give all the game away, but there are somethings about this kit that you should know.

Bish, I have seen your work on here and I personally think that despite your reservations you would love this kit.

In the released version there should be provision for not mounting the engines, and stands should be part of the kit I think. Also there are actual turbine blades for the engine which can be displayed....

I am not going to give anything else away.... I will get into trouble, but I think that should you invest in one Bish then you will have plenty to get your teeth into.

Full Frame, two engines with internal components...... Mwaaaa Haaa Haaa Haaa Haaaaaaaaaaa!

Is there any where in the UK that sells their kits, I can never find them.

Had an idea I thought I'd pass on. How about if the center section stayed clear for the view of the engine and cockpit, and the wings were TINTED to match the original color but remained transparent?

Just thought I'd ask. Sounded good when the voices suggested it to me. Wink

Hannants used to sell them and probably still do. I'd wait till Telford if your going this year as you can order them right form Zoukei Mura, they are a bit cheaper and no postage. Last year I picked up the Raiden from there and saved about £20 as well as no post, they had an order form on their wed site and cant see they wont this year.

Fox

Nice idea and you could do that yourself with smoke paint etc. I've only seen one kit with a smoked canopy which looked any good and that's a Hasegawa Raptor I have in the stash

ZM Weekend Edition?

Looks like they pay attention to what is being built in the group builds and modellers wanting all the detail.

Not a fan of the clear plastic, formed plywood would honor the Horten design better, veneer would be close to scale.

As P Mitch says, keep an eye on the ZM website as they usually put up online order forms for Telford, that's if you can make it there.

Alternatively you can place a pre-order when they time comes on their website and pay with PAYPAL. Your order will be sent from Japan but will fall foul of customs with VAT and import fees added plus a collection charge from Royal Mail.

I fell foul of that one with their UHU. Not again!

It is cheaper to order and collect at Telford. Also you can meet the guys behind the kit(s) as they manage the stand and also you stand a good chance of meeting the boss too.

The last time I met the boss of ZM at Telford I took and showed him my build of their P-51. He was so impressed that he had me put on his test builders list. Even more so when I told him that it was all painted with a bog standard paint brush and Vallejo Model Colour paints.

I think the people will find that the clear plastic will be translucent rather that polished clear (cockpit canopies should be the usual!) and should show detail etc.

@fox

Go to the ZM site and send them a mail suggesting it. It maybe too late for this one, but future kits......

Unfortunately the P-51 didn't survive long at Telford with all the idiots not looking where they are walking. It ended up as a wreck, which is why I am putting in another order for one for Telford.

You would think that modellers at shows would look where they are walking and not barge into someone carrying a bag or box!
