P-3C VP-46 Decals
Posted by TallRider67 on Monday, December 29, 2014 9:45 PM

I'm building Hasegawa's 1/72 P-3C for a friends birthday.  He was a member of VP-46, so does anyone know of any decals out there?

I found one, representing an aircraft from 2006.  Hopefully, this matches up with when your friend was in the squadron.

Wolfpak shows this out of stock on their website....couldnt find them on ebay either.  Fantasy Printshop also seems to carry some of the Wolfpak decals but they are also out of stock....and they are in Europe too.  I'm hoping you can find a set

Thanks but no.  About 20 years too late, and a different emblem.

Were the planes still carrying the white over gray scheme?  As in this photo:

That was taken around 1989 or so

This would be the correct scheme and markings:

My father served in VP-46 at NAS Moffet Field.  I remember those beautiful aircraft as I was always around them and have an intimate relationship with the seeing as how they kept my father alive.  I am also looking for the decals with the knight bust rather than the ugly ass hand and triton.  The only thing I can come up with is downloading the image I want and either making a decal or make a stencil and airbrush it.  Good luck on your search and please let us know if you find them.

Those were some great planes. I served with VP-90 out of NAS Glenview. I miss those planes .

I'm here today responding to this thread because I can personally attest that the Orion was built like the proverbial "brick ****house". The single most terrifying moment I've ever had in an airplane before or since was in a P-3. Thank you Lockheed for building a tank with wings.

P-3 decals are hard to get. I've been patiently waiting for Kursad at Caracal Decals to print a sheet that will include VP-48. My Hasegawa kit continues it's shelf vigil.

I did this same thing for my former step-father, who served in that squadron in the late 60s, early 70s.  My mother had a photograph of one of the Orions that he worked on, which I then was able to use to track down a high-resolution scan of the logo.  I then printed my own decals.

I'm pretty sure I still have the file I used to print the decals, but I'll have to dig it up.  I'd certainly be happy to share it with you if it is exactly what you're looking for.

And on that note, I must also add that my step-father passed away just last week.

Well, I just noticed this thread started up seven years ago!

Were you able to finish your Orion with the VP-46 markings?

I did the tail emblem for VP-9 for someone many years ago.  I guess P-3's just don't get much love from decal makers.
