Spitfire Mk.VIII, 1/19 Complete
Posted by wing_nut on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 8:27 AM
Mrs. Wing_nut was not well over New Years so we stayed home.  The upside was a solid 2 1/2 days at the bench Big Smile wrapped up my I-400 sub and got the better part of the Spit done.  It will be OOB except for some brakes lines on the LG.  This build is all about the markings. This will be done up as the RAAF "Grey Nurse".  I just love that Spitfire.
The wife is feeling better.  I know because now I've not been at the bench for 2 1/2 days Sad

Glad to hear Mrs. Wing_nut is feeling better, sorry to hear that your bench time is limited now.  The "Grey Nurse" looks like it's in excellent hands at this point.  I'm excited to see the completion as I'm also working/correcting my "Grey Nurse".

I went way too overboard with the salt technique and ruined the build.  Now I'm sanding everything off and starting to reshoot the camoflauge.  I'm just waiting on another set of decals from eBay, a seller was offering the same exact decals at a reasonable cost so I went ahead and purchased the decals.  I will be checking in to see how your build is coming along.

BK, 5 High, Tishi... apologies for the late thanks.

Part of this isn't going to sound right... but I miss the holidays... and my wife being sick ;)

She feeling much better which  is why I am not getting as much bench time as over the holidays.

But I am plugging away.  Most of the painting is done.  I just need to do the Sky Blue under the tail plane and fuselage where it was over painted foliage green.

One day I will figure out how to get a photo that show the black basing effects like what I am actually looking at.

Primed and marbled

1st color down and masked.  The tape is the new Tamiya tape for curves. And it works!  Liquid frisket was used between the tape.

And one of the fun parts... getting all the masks off.

Thank you all fellas.

The tape is really amazing how well it curves.  There was only the 5mm size available, the smaller sizes are sold out most places.  But I cut it thinner and it really gets tight curves.  The one thing I have to say is it didn't want to stick as well to the Tamiya paint as it did to my deck.  But it sure should make sharp edge camo a lot easier.

Bish, what to you have against a Spitfire?  Some traumatic experience in your youth?Surprise

Looks good Marc. The faint circle around the wing markings, is that where older markings have been over sprayed.

Wrapped this one up today.  All the great thing I've read about this kit are spot on.

Greta work on the Spit Marc, i really like the effect you have got with the over sprayed roundels. I have been reading a bit on the blackbashing method and am thinking of trying it on my Arado. But i wnat to spray that free hand so will have to give it some though.

One question. After you did the first colour and then masked, is that a randon spray on black or solid black and then a light colour sprayed over that before the green.

Thank you all for the compliments.

Bruce That's the Eduard ProfiPack boxing.

Bish, After I sprayed the gray I just decided that it would be easiest to prime with the black again and do the marbling again for the green.  If you plan to do free hand camo I think it should still work well.  Just remember that this take several very thin coats to keep that marbling showing through.  The guy I picked up this technique from does free hand all the time.

Hello Marc,

That is a right quick build!  And, a very fine build you've brought across the finish line.  Yes

Another beauty Marc. Really like that scheme. I'm really going to have to try this marbling technique. Looks fantastic
