1/72 Hasegawa EA-6B (Finished)

Very nice indeedy! Your build has me excited about building one of the two I have in my stash, later this year...I'll take reference from yours, because I've only built one jet in the two years I've been modeling. Everything else has been WWI and WWII planes.

Love it! So much realistic looking detail! Great job.

I must learn to paint, weather, use washes, etc., etc. The look achieved with competent skills and a good eye is really extremely attractive. Maybe someday....

Fermis - lookin' good! I've built a Matchbox model of the Prowler while I was in the primary school (dang, like it was yesterday!), and I like the lines of the EA-6B ever since! Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

....and...finally!!!

The support rods for the wings are brass rod...use Tamiya "clear Amber" on the inside of the canopy for the "gold tint".

Got just a little ahead of myself...just a couple spots to dab on a little dullcoat to knock out some CA shine.

Can't say that it's been pure joy with this one...but, that's all part of the fun, right?!!!

One last fix...

The kit had the big bump antenna, where there should be a blade antenna. Carved off the bump...leaving a gaping hole. I cut a piece of styrene sheet and glued on a "handle". Put some CA on the piece of sheet...(hehehe "piece of sheet"!!!)...finagled it into the hole (hehehe...I'm full of em!!!)...used the "handle" to pull the sheet back against the inside of the fuse. Some more sheet on top of that, to bring the "plug" closer to the fuselage surface...putty for the rest.

OUTSTANDING JOB, Fermis! You have done an amazing job on the cockpit! Hard to believe that it's 1/72nd scale! Sorry to read about the decal issues, but you seem to have overcome that obstacle. Good for you!!

I built the same Hasegawa kit when I was stationed at Iwakuni, Japan, back in 1989, although it had different decals than what your kit has. I remember it being an easy kit when built out of the box. I built it with VMAQ-2 markings (used to be the "Play Bunnies" markings, but political correctness took that away many years ago). As far as I know, the finished product is still on display at the small hobby shop on the base, as I left it there when I got orders back to Cherry Point in late 1989. But, more probably, it was used for target practice at the base rifle range after I left!!

Again, great job, Fermis! Looking forward to seeing the finished product soon.

It's been slow going lately.

"Authentic Decals" is a good name to remember...to STAY AWAY FROM!!!! The first decal I tried to use just crumbled. (I've had the same experience from them before). I sealled the whole sheet (so I had to cut out each one, as close as possible)...they were still a major PITA to deal with. The smaller markings...not so bad...but the big ones on the tail...made me hate my mother for bringing me into a world that had "Authentic Decals"!

I did not realize how bad those tail marking were...until going back at looking at real pics. The "bird" should be nice straight lines. I had done a bit of touch up with a brush...but not good enough...

BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

In a high risk move...I masked over the decal, and erased the white line with black...pulled that off...re-masked and sprayed new white lines (top and bottom). The big risk was the possibility of pulling up decal with the tape...very minimal damage...simple mask and repaint to fix those couple of spots. End reslut...much better!

Hmmmm...not really liking the camera on this new phone.

Ive never seen black leading edges on a Prowler before.  Niiiice!

Had another change in marking options.

Decided on VAQ-135 "Black Ravens"...

Got all the major painting done...

...and...back on break. Headed out in the a.m. for Indiana, to go to the Indy contest!

Got all the preshading done today. Had to order another kit, in order to get the markings I wanted for this one....nothing wrong with having another kit to do later on! That should be here any day now.

She's looking good.  I like the 141 paint scheme.  Keep up the good work.

Had a hard time with nailing down a scheme for this one. I have finally decided on VAQ-141 "Shadowhawks".

Not a huge update here...just some drying glue!

Just a bit of masking and she'll be ready to start painting!

That cockpit is a beauty, and what I like even more ist that you're doing a high-viz prowler here. Remains me of a Matchbox EA-6B I've built more than 20 years ago, while I was still in the primary school!

Can you say something more about that decal set? Does it have any Vietnam aircraft?

I'll be keeping an eye on this. I have a hase A-6 but would like to get an EA-6 as well. really nice start, love the look of the pit.
