Toshi,

I'm always in awe of your committed, insanely quick builds.

Since I'm now working on my 1/48 Fock Wulf F-8 and am at the stage where I'm painting - how do you get the mottled look? I was planning on using my finest needled air brush - my Iwata HP-C Plus - and just getting close to the fuselage in my paint booth and trying to do some "splotches". Is that the way it's supposed to be done? I have no clue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mike

To 1943Mike,

I use a NEO Iwata that has a .35 needle as well as a .35 nozzle.  I dial the compressor down to somewhere at or around 8 to 10 PSI.  That means your paint must be diluted down drastically to almost a water type consistency.

To do mottleing you can get as close as you can without creating the spider look.  If that starts to happen your air pressure is too high and or the trigger is being pulled back too much.  Practice on some plastic first.  Then you'll get the exact feel for it.

Once you feel comfortable, go ahead and start to mottle the F-8.  If you make a mistake, don't worry.  You can always repaint the area and redo the mottle  until you are happy with our efforts.

As for the splotches as you so describe, I also add into some really small squiggly mini snake looking lines.  Similar to a mini worm to break up the basic mottle sceme.  I hope this helps, if you have any more questions I am more than happy to answer any and or all your questions to rhe best of my abilities.

Toshi

P.S. By the way, your high end Iwata AB is more than capable to be able to do the job at even a higher level than my made for Iwara NEO.  Good luck sir!

Some nice work on the paint job there.

I have a few spots that needs to be cleaned up here and there.  Other than those errors, I think the 190 should be closing up soon.  Thanks for the follow and replie.

Our Sunday plan was to go out and visit China town and have some dim sum.  Unfortunately, Mrs. Toshi is not feeling good so it's a stay home Sunday for us.  I love to stay at home on Sunday's as I get to diligently work on my Fw 190.  Here is this afternoons progress.

This kit is coming along beautifully in your hands Toshi and that engine...WOW.

Thanks Jay Jay.  The engine was one of the components that went together effortlessly.  This is a great kit.  Thanks for the visit.

That engine is AWESOME. Very cool.

Up here in Minneapolis we almost hit 50 yesterday too. Snow will be gone by tomorrow. So much for skiing...

Thank you sir.  Unfortunately since I'm depicting the 190 in it's flying mode, it will be covered.  Thanks for the visit and enjoy the spring like weather.

Things here are really heating up.  I'm in Streetsboro, some 35 to 45 minutes from downtown Cleveland, Ohio.  We were at 0 degrees at our coldest point a few days ago.  Now all of a sudden, we are going to hit anywhere between 50 to 60 degrees over the next couple of days.  Then it's back to our normal of 30 degrees.  Burr.  What a weird winter.

I mostly stayed indoors allowing me to build non-stop for several weeks.  But today and tomorrow will be an outdoors day as Mrs. Toshi insists I stop making models and get out to enjoy the sun and warmth.  I wonder what she has planned?

Yesterday, I put together a kit in itself, the BMW radial engine.  As you can see from the photos below, it has been attached to the engine mount.  Everything was a puzzle, literally!  But once analyzed, it fit together like a glove.  Please enjoy the photos below.  Thank you forum members for your support and interests in my builds.

Toshi -

Once again sir you are off to a perfect start and I will be watching you to the end. Which I'm sure won't take another 20 minutes (LOL Bow Down) Keep'em coming Toshi I enjoy your post and builds.

LOL!  20 minutes?  That's a good one!  LOL!  I just try to do my best, some days I'm capable of doing well.  On other days it's tough.  Modeling was originally just a therapy for fine motor skills.  Just look at my first build of which was the Monogram 1:48 P-61 Black Widow.  Little by little I was able to improve on my fine motor skills all the while becoming rabidly addicted to the hobby.  It started off, with a tool here, another kit there, and then along came the AB.  I was hooked!

Thanks again for following my builds, I enjoy our conversations.

Slingshot

are you going to replicate the aircraft on the box, or are you going to make your own version?

To the best of my abilities, I will try to replicate what's on the box.  So far that's the plan.  If it changes, you'll be the first to know.  Thanks for the inquiries.
