Thanks guys...I'm in the process of flipping a house which is consuming alot of my free time.
I finished it up last night. It's the Tamiya P-47 D in the 56th FG/62FS markings of Colonel David Schilling. Schilling was the 6th leading ace in the 8th Air Force with 22.5 kills, to include 5 in one day. Hairless Joe was his personal mount from July 1944 until his last combat mission in January of 1945. Schilling would survive the war and continue to command the 56th FG. Schilling would died from injuries sustained in a car crash in 1956.
I chose to depict the plane after Schilling's run in with Flak and subsequent crash landing in September of 1944. The port wing reportedly had to be replaced. The upper camo was replaced but the underside was not repainted. Makes for an interesting scheme.
The kit was was a joy with only a few issues. I didn't paricularly like the design and fit of the rear spine, for which I complained about already. I also had trouble with the starboard wing root for some reason, but I'm sure it was something I screwed up. Putty on a Tamiya Jug...the humanity! I think I mentioned that too. This said, I still consider it's sister kit, the Tamiya Razorback, the best plastic model ever made. I have 5 in my stash. I used an Ultracast seat and tires. The decals were Aeromaster and presented no issues. I was worried about the lower ovrsized stars and bars but I had no trouble. I left the wing pylons empty because I didn't want to add bombs and I hate the 108 gallon paper tanks. I may still add the tear drop tanks but I've only seen those used in the Pacific. If I'm wrong please correct me.

The engine and cockpit work were particularly impressive and I love the unique "repaired" scheme with invasion stripes on one side. Alotta character in that one - really pretty !

Great work Joe, I like the paint scheme on those 8th Jugs with D-day stripes. I keep hearing about how nice that Tammy 47 kit is and have yet to build one.

Joe - I have been following this via email, and I've been in a bit of a modellingslump until the other day, and haven't been onthe forums. But each time I see it, all I can think is WOW! And the finish...it totally paid off. You nailed that build, as always, and it looks amazing. Great work.
