Ultimately, I'm just taking my time and enjoying myself, isn't that what this hobby is all about?  I think so, no, I know so.

I couldn't agree more!  That IS what it's all about.Toast

If I may add, I would like to reiterate that I am almost clueless of the Lancaster build.  It's like learning to ride a bike for the first time.  Thinking that since this is a Tamiya kit, everything about it would be perfection.  The only mistakes made would be on the behalf of the builder.

A few builds ago, I assembled a Monogram 1:48 B-24 Liberator.  Gaps on the liberator as well as seams, was exceptable in my humble opinion.  Of course like all hobbiest, putty and sanding would be the norm of the day.  Fast forward to the Lancaster build.

Being that this is a Tamiya produced kit, everything and I mean everything would fall into place.  Oh my!  That was incorrect.  I have to remember that this mold is probably 25+ years old, hence the technology that we take for granted is in all the new kits that are produced today.  I'm sure when this kit became available for the market, everyone was in awe.

The seams are equal to the Liberator kit.  At some places on the fuesalage, it was next to ridicules.  I'm not complaining, I'm just giving forum members a heads up if members choose to build this classic kit.  So far the front and rear turrets are on the Avro, next up, is the wings and engines.  I do know this much, I'm going to have to paint this kit in sections as it's a monster.

What I do like about this kit is that I get to see how Tamiya has grown over the years.  We now have the Tamiya signature 1:32 kits like the Corsair, Mustang, Zero, and the Spitfire.  I almost forgot to add the recent introduction of the 1:32 Mosquito.  Ultimately, I'm just taking my time and enjoying myself, isn't that what this hobby is all about?  I think so, no, I know so.

To my fellow forum members,

Please excuse my ignorance, as I thought this is a cool bomber to build.  I had little next to no knowledge of this aircraft.  After reading about it, I must say that the Lancaster was one of the most important allied aircraft of all time.  I also found out that this is Tamiya's original first of the series, hence the Japanese instructions.

I also read that this kit was reissued with new molds.  This newer release comes with a painted canopy glass.  I thought that was a great idea.  They actually look great!

Well, I made very little progress yesterday and into the evening.  It took me that long to use the Eduard mask.  I must say, I had fun and it was exciting to see it's transition.  That's something no one can ever take away from me, unless Tamiya pre-paints the canopies.  LOL!  Here are the front and rear turret assembly.  Thank you so much in advance for visiting my Lancaster thread!

Of all the planes I have painted, I think the Lancaster was by far the most fun.  Maybe it was the thought that black, instead of white or light gray, wasn't so intimidating.  Have fun Toshi.

I was in shock that the bottom half the Lancaster was painted black.  This will be an interesting challenge.  The only other kit I painted black was the P-61 Blackwidow and the SR-71.  Thanks for the visit!

The last several days were beautiful!  The weather here is now sunny and at a cool 70 degrees.  This is a perfect scenario to go outside on the patio to AB a kit.  I've had the chance to primer the Lancaster.  Please see below for a progress report.

Toshi

There are so many windows, the Lancaster looks like a 747.  LOL!

The fuselage windows were a feature of the early Lancs & were deleted in later production runs.

Thank you sir for that information.  I greatly appreciate it!  Also tanks for the visit.

Tohsi, I don't know my British bombers that well but the shot of the fuselage seems to me to have a lot of windows in it. I know the Brits made a airliner version of the Lancaster, could this kit represent that or does this version have that many windows? Tim

You have good eyes sir!  Those are little windows.  LOL!  I don't know much about British bombers as well so I'm just flying by the seat of my pants.  LOL!  Thanks for the visit.

Hmm, considering the apparent age of the kit, it might be a good idea to get hold of some Microscale Liquid Decal Film (or something similar) as a precaution in case the decals break up when they hit the water.

AND probably get a high-resolution scan of the sheets, just in case you have to print them on new film.  Good luck, should be fun!

That sounds like a good plan of action, thank you for the information.

Beware of the engine nacelles to wing fit. I recall having to use quite a bit of filler on all four engines.

It is a very nice kit if you take your time and  don't mind raised panel lines

I will definately watch out for the nacelle fit and I don't mind the raised panels at all.  Thank you for the read and reply.

Wow, nice old kit of a clasic bomber.

Thank you, yes, it's a classic at best.  I've never made a Lancaster before.  This should be very interesting.  Thanks for the visit!

I did purchase AM decals for this build.  From now on I'll make sure all my decals are AM for the older kits.  Thank you for the read and reply.

Cool, this should be interesting, as you said a real classic kit there. And unlike an American heavy bomber the RAF painted their planes so no annoying NM finish. Plus those Eduard masks should make the masking much, much, easier.

The decals looks usable though I don't think I'd try using that plastic cement!

Yes, I noticed that there are no MNF allied bombers, at least I didn't find one.  That's interesting trivia Gamera!  Oh no, the styrene cement will not be utilized.  I did purchase some AM decals.  Thanks for the read and reply.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
