The Aires cockpit is going to be a royal enhancement to your 234 Joe. Especially with the sweet greenhouse canopy that will allow you see it all quite well. That's what I like about what you are doing as you will actually be able to see most of the fantastic detailing you are going to do. Bonus that you've got the resin cockpit to fit well without too much hassle. At least I'm crossing my fingers that that is the case as indicated by your test fitting.

P.S.- Despite a despotic and sometimes ill tempered moderator, your 234 would be a welcome sight over on the '46 GB.

Outstanding looking pit.

This looks to be a fun build. The Smithsonian has one, if not the only restored one at the Air and Space Museum in DC. I checked it out in great detail while visiting there a few years ago and always thought it would be a great model. It had parachute recoverable liquid fueled rocket boosters under the wings and was an incredible restoration. Looks like you're off to a great start. I'll be watching with envy!

Managed to get the cockpit area black based this morning. Progress'll be slow on this one while I'm finishing up my '54 Chevy Sedan Delivery but I'm managing to do something with this every time I siddown at the bench.

Thanks Joe. Of all the kits that I've built I dislike the nose section and how it mounts up to the fuselage on this one the least. I will let you know to get that Valiant Wings book I've got on the intro post here as it covers the Dragon 1/72nd and Hasegawa 1/48th scale builds and gives a heads up in a few areas.

I cut the side panels from the resin mounting blocks today. This stuff is super thin so cutting it from them was a slow process to avoid breaking the dang things. Looks like everything is fitting here so far:

and still mates up to the fuselage as good as I've ever seen from an Aires set

I've got the tub all trimmed up and the two pieces glued together. I had to sand a lot of material from the bottom to get it to fit right but so far so good. Here's a few shots with the clear nose piece test fitted. It looks like it's gonna be A-OK.

Looking forward to see how all of that detail work turns out.

I can't wait to see this go together. Man I should have sprung for all the nice resin detail on my build.

Eagerly waiting for you to dig into that cockpit :)

More test fitting today with the Aires interior detail set. Looks like it's going to fit good at the firewall/ fuselage joint. Will have to see how everything is going to behave with the glass installed ..........

I think I’m going to test fit this kit together first to see how it’s supposed to go together and then install my resin goodies here and there. I figure it’ll give me a slight edge when things aren’t going together so smoothly when installing the resin pieces. Painting this sucker on the bottom will be a unique experience for me as I’m used to painting my exteriors with no landing gear installed. Judging by the fit of the fuselage halves together and the wing to fuselage joint I’d say it might be a slight bit easier of a kit than I’d originally thought.
