First batch of shots from Geneseo.  B-25 Mitchell "Take Off Time"  I have acheived prop blur thanks to Foto Frank!

I hope I have some good pictures when I get back from AirVenture.

Well, this thread is getting too far back in the pack, so here are some pictures I took at our Golden Age Fly-in at Woodland Davis Aeromodelers.

Geneseo?! If your suitcase seems to be really, really heavy, like by a couple a hundred pounds, poke a hole so I can breathe, OK? Geneseo has been a dream like forever. Be sure to take lots of big SanDisks, like 128 gig, 'cause you'll use 'em all up!

 

Yep, Geneseo NY.  Lol.  It's only a couple hour drive for me.  I just bought a 64GB, and have another 16GB as back up.  So glad I got the new camera, I wasn't all that happy with the pictures I took last year.  I'm going to need a bunch of reference shots of Whiskey 7.  I plan on building a 1/48 replica of her, cause I'm not only going to the airshow, I'm going to be taking a ride on Whiskey after the show!

Thanks fotofrank!  I had asked a few people about that, and couldn't seem to get a straight answer, guess I should of asked here!  I still have to learn how to change the settings on my camera.  I have a book, now I just need to read it!  Thank you for the tip, it will come in super handy when I go to Geneseo next month for their annual airshow.  Everything there will be prop planes!

Keyda, there are two things to remember in aviation photography, One is for prop planes you need a slow shutter speed to blur propellers, 1/250 or slower. For jets you want a fast shutter speed, 1/500 to 1/1000.

Keavdog, I guess they invert the #5 because that plane spends most of it's time upside down during shows.  My camera was certainly getting a work out when they were performing, it was the only way I was going to get a shot like that.

Keyda, I just grabbed your JPEG and loaded into my Mac "Photos" program and lightened your shot by about a stop. I then turned up the contrast as you sometimes have to do on a gray day. I don't know if "Photos" is availible in Windows but something is to quickly adjust your work. This was all done in about two minutes. Your images will all quickly tweak into brightened up versions. Hope this helps!

From Thanksgiving weekend last year, the final Formula 1 race of the season in Abu Dhabi.  Etihad sponsors the race, and the UAE Air Force did some fly overs.  I was just in a good spot to have the flags in the pic.

From experience, their A380s are very comfortable upstairs.

Learning Photoshop: As the football great Paul Hornung used to say, "practice, practice, practice." You can do a lot of adjusting and pre-editing in Camera Raw, if you shoot in raw format. Camera Raw is also a filter in Ps. YouTube is my go-to source when I have a question or need help with Photoshop.

I have an older version of Photoshop, that I have no clue how to use, lol.  I'll have to give it a try one of these days when I get the time.  Play around with some of the pictures and see if I can brighten them up a bit.

+1,000,000,000,000,000 on Photoshop, my only go to image editor on the market.

Keyda, are you editing with Gimp? Just curious. Myself, I edit with Photoshop. Photoshop is all I've used since the '80s. Thirty plus years doesn't make me the best editor out there though.

I have some stuff from Sun n Fun and the MacDill Open House I'll be posting...eventually.

Nice sharp shots, Keyda, great stuff.  One reason they are dark is the sun angle, always best if the sun is behind you when you are shooting. But then often there is no choice.  The California Capitol Airshow is that way.  Always shooting into the sun except in the early morning.

 

Thank you!  Yea there really wasn't an option.  There isn't too many places you can be without the possibility of Military police coming out and giving you the boot.  One end of the runway where I was standing for the last group of shots is right there off a busy road where most cars at traveling at 50mph.  A few people that shoot pics weren't the sharpest tools in the shed and decided to cross the road, that got everyone kicked off on arrival day.

Thanks!  Just the crappy windows program.  I did lighten some of them a little bit, if I did it too much they looked washed out.  It was a rather cloudy, grey kind of day too.  I'll have to play with the settings on the camera some more as well.  I'm still a big time newbie when it comes shutter speeds, ISO, and what not.  I'll learn eventually, I did learn to produce better models, lol.

These S-2T Trackers are at my local airport (Ramona, CA) which is a fire attack base.  I did a 1/72 model of #70

Excellent images, Keyda. It's good to see that Memphis Belle has the top turret installed. The airplane didn't have the turret when it was at Sun n Fun in April.

What is your camera again? And the lens you used to get the images?

 

Thanks!  It's a Nikon D3400 with a 70-300mm lens.  Still getting the hang of using it.  I have a lot to learn when it comes to shutter speeds, ISO, and what not, lol.

Keyda, I've had good luck with my Nikkor 18-300 zoom.  No good airshow pics yet, but I did capture  the following couple with it.

I look forward to seeing your photos from the airshow.  I'm hoping to get to Osh Kosh this year, so hopefully I'll have a few to share.
