Completed Testors Classic 1/72 F4U-1 Corsair

By the way, this is the very first kit that I've seen bagged like this.  It did surprise me at first yet, all the parts were in pristine condition and still attached to the spruces after sitting at the bottom of a file cabinet crushed under paper work!  LOL!

Sorry to heare about your seizure and the F-4U-1 being damaged, I hope all is well. Respectfully what a story! I'm sure this F4U will come out just as good or even better!

With the combo of bad luck (the seizure) and good luck (your Dr handing you another F4U) maybe you should play the lottery!

A few things I just realized, there are no parts numbers and there are markings for "Pappy" Boyington's Lulubelle/Lucybelle .  The only challenge I have is that after my episode/incident, my hands are not moving properly.  

Painting Boyington's VMF 214 skyblue, white, and intermediate blue, will definately be a challenge for me as I've never AB a tricolor paint scheme in 1/72 before.  Uh oh .

I both love, and hate this kit. I love it because its a cherished childhood memory and I got to build it again as an adult and built it the way I had always dreamed of. But hate it because it faught me almost all of the way to the finish lol.

Sorry to hear about your incident and hope all is ok with your health. 

Tri colors are no different than any other scheme so don't be intimidated. Shoot the lighter colors first and then go the the next blue shade and the darker one last. This method reduces paint use as in a lighter color trying to cover a darker one. Silly putty is easily formed as a masking agent to give you clean and even demarcation lines.

This is the first kit I've built in which there is no cockpit and that area is closed.  But that's ok, just to have this Corsair back means very much to me!  Thank you so much M.Brindos for your continued support in my WIP builds.  Just to know you're there brings me great joy and happiness!  Thank you for everything!

Thank you for your heartfelt concern.  You're very kind, Mrs. Toshi and I are now doing fine.  Your tip on the application of the tricolor paint scheme is very useful and has brought back confidence in myself.  I'm going to attempt to spray the little Corsair's tricolor free hand.  Wish me luck.  Thank you so much for your continued support in my WIP builds, this means so very much to me and I so enjoy our conversations.  Thank you PlasticJunkie!

In my next process, I'll be priming the little Corsair.  Once I deem that my sanding of the seams have been done properly I'll spray the first coat on.  All of the paints will be from Vallejo.  Then I can button up my build, thank you all so much for the support you've given me, I am so happy!

T.B.     P.S.We build Models so--- We are on top of things , and yes , there is a Med that can help you . Just make sure the side effects don't damage something important !

Yes, that's how much I love the Corsair, just like you!  I did see that Trumpeter makes a 1/32 Corsair, maybe I can get that for my birthday.  As for 1/72 builds, thats is Mrs. Toshi's favorite scale.  I really enjoy Academy 1/72 WWII aircraft series.  They're inexpensive, highly detailed, and take up little room.  allan, thank you so much for your support over these last year and a half, I so greatly appreciate it!

So one side of the fuselage was not larger than the other side?????  I got this kit from the local Osco Drug when it first came out.  It taught me two things, 1) how to sand until my elbow fell off, and 2), it was the first model I learned to weather and dry brush on from reading the little tutorial in the instructions.  

In thinking I got a bad kit, I bought two more, and both had one side of the fuselage larger than the other.  They must have fixed it.

To my fellow forum members,

This is something I've never done before.  AB a 1/72 Corsair free hand.  It took a lot of patience and some retouching of some areas.  I will be building "Pappy" Boyington's Lulubelle/Lucybelle.  I would like to have members whom can give me some feedback into how it came out.  Thank you in advance.

You free handed that? You did better than i did on mine. I had to go and touch up mine with a little dry brushing to get mine to look the way it does.

I should have also warned you much sooner, but Pappy's squadron didn't have rocket equiped Corsairs. That's why I removed those from the wings and moved the bombs inboard of the wheel wells on scratch built racks.

I don't know if you want to change this so late in the build - especially after paint - but now you know.

...and knowing is half the battle! Go Joe! lol

The freehand airbrushing came out really well, Toshi. 1/72's not that difficult. Its actually half the work compared to a 1/48. lol!
