Completed 11/26/16 Trumpeter 1/32 AV-8B Night Attack Harrier II
Posted by Toshi on Saturday, November 5, 2016 1:05 PM

To my fellow forum members,

Mrs. Toshi and I have almost finished our unpacking.  We just need to transfer some items from the old garage to the new garage.  When will all of this moving of boxes end?  LOL!

As you can see by the title, this is a modern 1/32 Harrier kit.  It's huge and a monstrosity.  What am I doing with such a large kit when I was stating last month that I might have to quit modeling due to the move and the lack of space?  LOL!  I happened to purchase this kit with the help of Mrs. Toshi prior to our knowledge that we were going to move.

I won't get rid of it as this is a pricy model.  On that note, Mrs. Toshi had a coupon that covered this kit and the photoetch you see at the bottom including the shipping and handling via Amazon Prime.  When you're a Amazon Prime member, the majority of the time, your shipping and handling is free.  I normally purchase my kits from eBay but since the coupon was for Amazon Prime, I couldn't say no.

I'm still not acclimated with my new modeling space/niche so bare with me. Below you'll find just the base photos of this kit as it has 25 plus spruces to total 425 pcs.  This does not include the photoetch parts, clear parts, rubber tires, and the aftermarket Eduard photoetch set.  This is the reason why I have not included a detailed photo of the entirety of the kit.  So please enjoy the WIP and thank you forum members for your support and belief in me!

Nice display but I can't imagine being comfortable with all those planes on that stairway (?) wall.

Thank you sir.  It's actually a wall that separates the model/niche room from the stairs hence you're correct on both counts.  Yes, it scares both Mrs. Toshi and I!  LOL!  I have to find room for these planes somehow.  Thanks for the read and reply.

Hi Toshi,

Great to see your making space for your models and working on a new one after the move! I'll be watching!

Thank you XF-15DCC.  It's good to be back and building a kit again, albeit a monstrosity of a model.  LOL!

Here is the start of the Trumpeter kit.  It feels strange trying to acclimate myself in a new bench surrounding but I'm happy with the way things turned out thanks to fellow forum members!

This will not be as big of a model as your F-4G that fell and was destroyed recently. The Harrier is maybe 2/3 the size of the Phantom.

Thank you very much roony.  It's a fantastic feeling to be back especially with such a "welcome back to the forums" from you.  I'll definately get used to the new surroundings in time.

Wow, you have a good memory!  You just jogged my mind in the incident I had several months ago with the F-4G Phantom that fell from the sky!  LOL! Thank you for the read and reply.

I remembered your incident because I'm building the same kit now... I'd be heartbroken if that happened to mine with all the effort I'm sinking into it...

LOL!  What a coincidence.  I hope you enjoy building that kit as much as I enjoyed the build.  I was not as heartbroken but more so shocked to see it on the ground when I had larger models hanging.  Oh, well.  Thus is life.  LOL!  Good luck on your build!

To Bish,

Finally!  This was one of the last rooms to do.  I too love this subject as I still recall this jets performance in a movie called True Lies.  I just loved the concept of a VSTOL aircraft and thought how cool it would be to build one!  Thank you for the read and reply!

Isn't that always the case. I am now finally in my own model den after years of building in the dinning room.

You can always trust the Brits to come up with something special. Wink

Yes, the OG Sidley Harrier was an amazing innovation.  You Brits really made a fantastic aircraft and a cool one at that.

I'm so happy to be back!  I miss making kits but I miss you and all of the forum members.  I so enjoy these conversations.  Every time we move, the surround sound system needs to get broken down.  Upon set up, I always calibrate the speakers using the scene from Matrix where Keanu Reaves "Neo" is in the Huey chopper saving Morpheus.  Trinity is the pilot.

For shear intensity the machine gun and the helicopter crash scene is what I use to see if the subwoofer is set up right.  Then I use the scene in True Lies of where the two Harriers intertwine and shoot their missiles at the bridge.  I love to use that as a test scene as that test scene puts emphasis on the left, center, right, rear left, and rear right surround speakers as the missiles are launched and the two Harriers fly their tandem patterns.  If everything is set up right, you can hear the missiles fly around you and hear the jets move around the room.  As you stated; "True Lies was a classic"!  I must agree with you on that note!
