1/32 Revell He162A WIP

I got the nose wheel unit done and the pit is ready for paint. Got the foot pedals bent and attached.Had to use a lot of PPP on the rear bulkhead due to gaps. So much for being made specially for this Revell kit. It's really easy working in this scale or maybe it's just an easy to work on kit. I will be opening up both gun positions on the fuselage sides so I have the gun well resin details on with Aleenes just to get the correct placement of things to eliminate surpises later on. 

Here's the pe sheet. It has a nice IP and much better than the kit's. Lots of nice details to add.

I did some work on the pit and gear legs. Shot the pit with MM 66 flat acrylic mixed with Future to ge a glossy finish to run my oil washes to deepen details. The legs got MM Acrylic  02 with Future for the washes too.

The pit still needs more parts and detailing but it will eventually look busy.

Wow!! Such awesome detail on the pit. The resin kit and PE you put in there is so nice and detailed. It made the pit just pop out I will be following this build until you complete it. Outstanding so far PJ.....no surprise though. 

I was going to remove the molded wires on the gear legs but they are nicely detailed as is but even better after running the UMM scribing tool to sharpen the line details. The metal parts were painted with Humbrol silver enamel in the small tin. I have a bunch of Humbrol tins some being 30 years old and are still in excellent condition.

I put the CMK resin engine together and sprayed different metalizer shades then started adding wires while using reference pictures.

It's beginning to look busy.

I will add more wires as I go to busy it up even more. I also got the main gear well painted and washed with oil paint to pop the molded details.

I have yet to add a ton of things including the resin cannon bays I'm working on right now.

Nice engine detail!  Interesting how close those canons were to the pilot seat!

Okay...you impressed me with the pit....now the engine and the main gear well. Man it gets no better. Awesome detailing job PJ. I also echo MM....on how close the cannons were to the pilot.

I may have to take another trip to my optomitrist - all the fine detail is makiing me dizzy!

Seriously, you're doing a great job on this kit PJ.

I've been working on an office for about a week and have used water based wash (The Detailer) and I'm not happy with the result. Probably my poor technique/execution but I think I'll raid my oils sitting by my easel downstairs next time I try to do a wash.

This is just one example of the amazing work you do.

I also have The Detailer and have used used here and there but I like the results I get from my home brewed oil paint washes better. Only use Testors thinner in the red can from HL. I was using generic enamel thinner from Home Depot and it wasn't dilluting the paint properly, leaving a gritty residue in the mix that doesn't happen with the Testors brand. Just make sure you have a gloss acrylic barrier to get shap details and make the wash flow easier.

The engine fan piece has a small weird looking part which I replicated using thin plastic sheet and my Micro Punch.

They are resin and are ready attached to the seat. All I did was to paint them red-brown and then gave them a dark brown oil wash. The pe belts still need to be bent and attached. Thanks for looking.

Did a little more work on the Salamander. I got the office squared away and added wiring and knobs. To replicate the leather cannon covers, I crumpled up some masking tape, rolled on the barrels and coated them with super glue and when they dried, painted them Vallejo leather. The flash makes them look more red than in reality.

I cut the gun bay doors out and fitted the CMK gun bay details then closed up the fuselage. The kit has a good fit but not so with the CMK parts. Prior to joining the halves, I had to shim and play with angles to make the pit and the gun bays fit. The right gun bay has a huge gap that needs to be filled.

Checked some great reference photos and did some plumbing work in the main gear well.

I forgot to ask...but the wiring you placed in the pit....what gauge is that, and where did you pick it up at? The detail on the pit is just stunning.

Thanks again Hunter. I have a box full of discarded electronic wiring and parts. Before tossing electronic components, I take them apart looking for interesting small parts useful for scratcht building and as much wires as I can pull out. 

Electric cords are also a good source for thin copper wire. I'm sorry but don't know the wire size I used in the Salamander's pit, I just go by eye if it looks to scale.
