AMT Junkers Ju88A-4 COMPLETED

I bought this at Ollies discount store so am not expecting much and have already been warned about the fit. Theres a lot of extra plastic all over the place. The wings went together good so no complaints there, I just wanted to glue something together. At this point I'm concetrating on getting the clear parts masked up. Any advice on the top camo colors would be appreciated.

ps. Opinions wanted on the best epub book about the Flying Tigers would be great :)

I do have the ProModeler version of the Ju88A-4 in my stash so, since it looks like you're doing a WIP,  I'll follow along with interest knowing that there's quite a difference in accuracy from what I've read between the two versions of this model. I'm looking forward to see what you do with it.

Good morning, Piper. It pains me to hear of your youngest having been in the hospital for so long. I have not had to experience that and hope I never will. I truly hope your child is okay and now in good health.

If the kit is anything like the Esci/ERTL P-36 I've been working on, then you've got a small fight to look forward to. I don't think it will be anything you can't handle. Your past work has been good, if it's anything to judge by. I am positive you'll make something solid out of it and I look forward to it!  :)

As for an ePub recommendation about the Tigers I can't help you with that. I do have some collected information about who flew what and when and I could probably publish a small handbook with the info I have lol. 

Any peticular question on the Tigers can most likely be answered with the collected knowledge of us P-40/Flying Tigers gurus here.

I'm sorry to hear of your young ones illness.  I've had my son in for almost as long and it's gut wrenching.  The canopy masking looks great, nice start! I'll be following along.

I finished the Ju 88 about 4 months ago and had a lot of fun with it. Lots of flash and putty dust. I turned it into a "monster" with a little scratch-building. (Thanks M. Brindos for the inspiration)

I did some experimenting with the paint job trying to come up with the "Where Eagles Dare" paint scheme. Good/Bad results.....

I'll post the pictures when I figure it out....again!

P.S. I love Ollies...Sometimes you can find great bargains on models there. About 5 years ago, just after Xmas, I picked up 3 Italeri/Testors tank models (Sturmtiger, JS-2, and a Jadpanzer) for $30. There now selling for more than that on Ebay just for one!

Das: Your 88 looks great! I recently went to the closest Ollie's but the only had a coule of car Crown Vics I think. I was bummed cause last time I was there they had a decent selection.

I dry fitted the wings and I see a fair, ok  A LOT? of filing in my future. I have a little over half the nose canopy masked.

My daughter hasn't had an admission in 2 years and I'm taking the first 2 weeks off because it was the flu after that it was a normal respiratory admission. We've tied our record stay once already and this one came close by 9 days. We're pretty much used to hospital stays but they can be very exhausting. She has a neuromuscular disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Although I've never had children of my own (I had about 65 each semester for 12 years teaching in high school), I do feel emotional pain when I think about how devastating an experience your daughter's disease must be from time to time in your family. I do hope the latest trial results of SPINRAZA and any other drugs that might be in or coming to the market are positive and hopeful.

Thanks. It was just a test mule...Trying a paint scheme, scratch and new VJ model air paints. I had fit problems with the fuselage. A bunch of putty and sanding. Still was alot of fun.

As you know Ollies is hit and miss. Krogers is next door in my neck of the woods, so I stop in every 2-3 weeks.

Hope your daughter is doing better, neuromuscular diseases suck. I have MS in my family. (sister and cousin). Stay positive and keep building, sir.

Well that made my jaw drop lol. She's 16 so the majority of the decision rests on her and after talking to her neuro she's still not sure. It's a treatment not a cure and nobody is really sure about just how much it will help with older kids. It requires shots into the spine for the rest of her life and is expensive as heck, the insurance companies have had a mixed reaction about it so we shall see.

Finally had some time to finish up taping the canopy's while she works on makeup work. The directions call for a flat black interior, is that correct? just seems weird. I'm going to start painting the crew here shortly and will start working on the interior soon. I had to pay a lot to the irs so mostly going to work with what I have unless I can get to HL and use my gift certificate.

Interior color seems to be RLM66...................

I was able to get the interior paint I wanted and have started painting with it and some of the other colors and the crew. Don't look too close at the bombs lol made the mistake of putting them together first and had no way to hold them.

Where is the big pile of flash and dust? lol ....That's how I paint my bombs...one half at a time. Actually was on HL website last night to look for Gator clips to make my own "helping hands"....

LOL I cleaned up before I took the picture :) looks like I should have cleaned my lense too I just noticed how blurry it is. I think the worst parts to clean up were the guns, I was just waiting for a barrel to break.

The directions call for the underside to be flat sea gray which I don't have surprisingly, after looking at pictures of the plane on the web it seems the underside is more blue'ish would would duck eggs blue be a decent substitute?

Duck Egg Blue will be an acceptable substitute. 

A tip for painting bombs, rockets, pilots, wheels, etc.; drill a small hole in an easy to hide location and stick them on a toothpick. Spray with primer (Krylon and Rustoleum work well and are easy to find) and have easy access to paint your parts without touching them.

Works well with the thin paint multiple coats brush technique. So you dont have brush marks. You'll like the better finish you will get.  :)

Slowly getting there, the pit and interior is ready, finished up the main canopy, I'm thinking I'll paint the canopy's after I get them glued on. I've sanded the wing tabs down for a decent fit into the plane body and yes it was messy lol

Went together better then I expected but I see a good bit of cleaning up to do.

Lol. I don't blame you! I did the same with my Lindberg Ju-87. :)

I was able to clean up the fuselage using a fair amount of putty, which I think the putty may be a little to thick maybe from sitting on a shelf for too long at HL. Wings are on looks like more putty but I think I'll try to pick up a new tube tomorrow. There is a definite twist in the fuselage :(

Putty is on, it's my old stuff and I'm not sure it's all that good the tube has like 4 holes in it. Took my daughter to see a friend of hers and afterwards we stopped a a craft store that sells modeling stuff but they didn't have any putty.
