Thanks gents for the words of encouragement. I am nearing the completion of the first pit and assembly is challanging to say the least. The resin kit from LSM is very detailed, but the resin didnt come out too well on this one so a lot of work went into making it presentable. Still, its far better than the kit parts. I should have some pics up tomorrow.

I built that kit between forty and fifty years ago. I really enjoyed that build. It turned out pretty nice even OOB, so yours should be fantastic.

Hi BK

Sorry to hear about the problems with Lone Star. I met Mike at the 2012 IPMS Nats here in Orlando but was out of the resin KF pits. He did not charge me for the shipping when I ordered mine since we had talked in Orlando aboit it. The resin details look very good and will enhance the pit details.

I have this kit along wit the KH 1/32 one which looks awesome but has been reported with some fitting issues here and there from reviews I have read.

Your build will be an interesting one since you have so much AM items.

Ok, so.....day one. I'm off and running. I just finished up my Tamiya Beaufighter which was a splendid kit. And I started work on these two today. Now I have to say I'm already scratching my head with how bad the fit and flash is on these two kits. But, since most of the kit parts are being replaced or reworked I'll just have to press on. I also have a Kittyhawk 1/32 Kingfisher that I may build along the way to help give me some details for the 1/48 kits.

"Build two Monogram Kingfishers they said. It'll be fun the said."

As you can see in the pic below, I've cut off the kit float to make room for the Lone Star Models float which is much more accurate. I will be leaving it off until I have the cockpits done and halves closed up. But, I had to show you something.

I found the CE cockpit on evilbay some time ago. I watch for them from time to time and buy them when I find a good deal. I don't recall what I paid, but it wasn't all that bad.

I am really looking forward to these Kingfishers in your capable hands.

I have started one of the Monograms but hit a wall when trying to AM the interior. i ordered the resin from Lone Star but twice had problems with it . Once it got lost in the mail so I never received it and the second arrived in the wrong scale. Where did you find the Cutting Edge interior?   The only one I've seen on Ebay the clown wants $150 for it. Way too much for a 1/48 interior in my book.

I can't wait to see these ones come together. I love the idea of building a Kingfisher, but I don't have the patience to do what you're about to do to these. I'm looking forward to this one.

1/48 Monogram Kingfisher X2, FINALLY DONE !!!!!
Posted by BrandonK on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 11:20 AM

The time has come to begin another long journey. I have two Monogram Kingfisher kits. These kits will be built together and both will get complete makeovers.

I am adding resin pits from Lone Star Models and Cutting Edge as well as white metal beaching gear, Squadron canopies, resin corrected floats from LSM, a corrected (scratch built) closed cowling, and an open scratch built cowling with Vector Engine and full fire wall and mounts, wires, plumbing, etc. Both kits will receive a full rescribe and any control surface attention I think they may need. I still have not decided on a scheme for either plane but I was thinking of an RAF on one and a triple blue on the other. Decal kits are a bit limited for these so my options are also not so great.

I don't know how long this will take, but my goal is to have them done this year. Time will tell on that one for sure. I have learn a  great deal from my P-40 build and that will save me a great deal of time. Well, enjoy the show.
