Ditto!  Lol.  Only time I managed more then one was the Eduard P-39 Airacobra's that came with 2 kits.

The ”Overtrees” kits are a great way to save money and use all those beautiful decals that Eduard kits come with. Glad to see you’ll be utilizing one!

Started with some fiddly bits...because I know, when I get done with the main build, I'd put off doing all this stuff.

Does any of these night fighters have the jazz music configuration or the option for it in the kit? I've been looking for a kit that does but haven't been able to find a answer.

Jazz Music were the upward firing guns fitted into the rear fuselage or cockpit of some German nightfighters. The 110's had them in the cockpit, i thin that G-4 kit has them if i remember right when i was looking at the Eduard instructions on the site.

Speaking of which, i'll be keen to see if you think the resin pit is worth getting for the profi pack kit. I can't make up my mind whether to go for that or just the weekend edition.

This is taken from one of my books on German night fighters Oberfeldwebel Paul Mahle a "weapons man" with 5./ NJG 5 had seen a defensive upward firing installation in a Do 217 torpedo bomber at the Luftwaffe development centre at Tarnewitz. He decided to try to fit a similar installation in a Messerschmitt 110 to enable the night fighter to attack from underneath an enemy bomber. Such an attack had 2 advantages namely the fighter would be in the bombers defensive blind spot - most RAF heavy bombers lacked a turret under the aircraft - and the fighter would have an easy, no deflection, shot at the bomber. Initially 2 aircraft were converted and after testing the first saw use against the RAF raid on Peenemunde 17/18 August 1943. The pilots who these aircraft were the Staffelkapitan, leutnant Peter Erhardt who shot down 4 bombers on this mission and Unteroffizier Walter Holker who previously had not met enemy bombers shot down 2. Tracerless ammunition was used and the attacked bomber often literally never knew what hit them. Source: M Middlebrook The Peenemunde Raid ISBN 0 14 010736 3 The fitting of guns at an angle was known as "Schrage Musik" (Jazz Music). Such installations were fitted to a variety of German night fighters. Schräge-Musik "Slanting Music" or "Jazz Music" A favored form of attack was to close in from astern to within 30 - 50 yards (m) and give a good burst of fire to kill the tail gunner then leisurely hack away at the now defenseless bomber. In IV/NJG1 it was found to be even better to make an approach 150ft (m ) below the bomber and match speeds until ready to attack, in this position the night fighter was nearly immune from detection and machine-gun fire. The pilot would then pull up almost vertically and fire when the bomber's nose met the top of the Revi C.12/D gun sight. Installation in Bf 110s, Ju88s and Do217s of 'schrage musik' allowed night fighters to attack from directly beneath the bombers without having to execute the intricate maneuvers described above. The two MG FFs or MG 151/20s 20mm cannons mounted in the cabin or fuselage at a 70 -80 angle were aimed by a second Revi C.12/D or 16B gun sight mounted on the canopy roof. 'Schrage musik' proved to be lethal and took a fearsome toll of heavy bombers in the night battles of 1944 - 45.

And yes, the G-4 does have them in the kit.

Wings are finished up...

 

 

The G's have a different style wingtip and nav lights. I cut away the molded in "lights" and replaced em with clear sprue.

I flattened one side, and drilled shallow holes, which were filled with clear green/red.

 

 

Rivets...lots and lots of rivets!

 

 

I screwed up a little bit. I figured I'd do one exposed engine on the left, and do the right on another plane. The a/m set is designed to be on the left. Not a huge deal, just a little trimming on the bulkhead to make it fit the right side, and I had to cut the rear panel section from the kit parts, rather than use the resin.

Finally managed to get the G pits mostly done. There's a bit more to do for them, but that'll be later on, just before the canopies go on.

 

 

 

 

 

Due to the serious lack of bench time...I'm going to carry on with just the G's, and set the earlier versions aside for now.

So much detail for such a small scale!  Those G's are looking great! 

Ok,  I only have one question,  why are you doing 6 at a time?   way cool and it would blow my mind but why!   Lol

Me, I couldn't handle the repetitive nature of this project, but it looks like you have having great fun with it!

Why 6?...4 are commission builds. I've done several others, but not any for myself...so 2 (G & D) are for me. It is tedious and repetative, but much faster to do them all together, like an assembly line. I have decided to put the 3 early versions on the back burner for now though. I'm remodeling an entire house, so that is really killing my bench time. I'll continue on with the G's, so I can get em shipped out, then pick back up on the others.
