Tamiya Buffalo
Posted by Cdn Colin on Saturday, February 24, 2018 7:47 PM

I'll use this post to try out imgur.  I haven't posted anythiing with a picture since Photobucket's fiasco last summer.

This is my first attempt at freehand camoflauge with an airbrush.

The kit went together in typical Tamiya fashion; the only issues being my own fault. I found footage on Youtube that clearly showed national markings above and below both wings, but the decal sheet had only one set.  A special thanks to Aggieman for supplying a spare set he had.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

Looks good! What colors did you use on this? And what references? I’ve seen conflicting information on the Dutch Buffaloes.

Certainly looks spiffy to me!

Hard to tell about the colors but it looks about right to me. All depends on the light source in pictures that we post on the internet. Here's a screen shot from the 'net:

Of course rebuilt/restored classic aircraft may not have paint that represents all the varients in the country's airforce at that time.

Here's the video I found:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQDWcLudRSE

For colours, I used what the instructions said; FX-49 Khaki and XF-62 Olive Drab.  In the video, the colours don't seem to contrast as much, though.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

You did a fantastic job on your free hand camoflauge.  What an unique and interesting build.  Thank you for sharing your build.

Great job on this very interesting aircraft. I especiallly like the excellent canopy masking job you did.

She looks great! Nice job on the camo. Interesting subject and markings, is it a 1/48 scale?

Great work. I too have this kit but my decals are old and I just don't trust them so I will paint them all on. Yours turned out fantastic.

Not bad freehand camo for a first try. The first time I did it, it looked like my airbrush sneezed and puked the paint all over the plane Stick out tongue I did have troubles with it, though, which are now fixed Smile

That is a great freehand camo job!  Nice to see the Dutch version--dont see that very much.

What do you think of imgur? Like you I haven't posted a pic in over a year and am considering that host source.

Thanks for kind words, all.

Freem, I'm not finding Imgur too bad.  It takes some getting used to but is much less cumbersome than Photobucket.  I'm not sure who really owns the pictures on it, though.

There was a lot of overspray from the 2 colours, and it looks better in pictures, I think.  I did rub it down with some old t-shirt material before decalling.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.
