Seamwork looks perfect.  I look forward to your Memphis Belle.  I built the Revell kit years ago and it was quite nice for it's age.

Thanks lawdog!  I think I was on the brink of insanity with the putty, sand, prime, repeat rountine, lol.  So glad it's done.  I've got one more little kit I want to do, and then Mini MMB is up next.

Finally some progress to report.  I haven't been getting much time at the bench, but I managed to get up there for almost all of today.

I'm finally done with the putty, sand, prime, repeat routine.  What a pain in the butt that was.  I'm happy with how it looks now, so I'm ready for paint.  I got most of the PE glued on, and some of the scratch made fiddly bits.  Still a few more to do. 

Most of the PE flaps are ready to go.  Still have two more sections to build. 

She should see Whiskey 7's signature colors this week.  Finally.  Lol.

...I do have a kit, and a ton of PE for Mini MMB.  It's the Revell B-17F kit in 1/48.  I will have to modify a few of the nose windows, but I think that is about it.  I haven't looked at the kit in depth yet.  

 

 

 

Yep, pretty much the only game in town for such a project. I've got that one in my stash, to convert it to a B-17E for my collection of American aircraft used at Midway.  For a kit that originated as a copy of Monogram's B-17G ("Don't let it happen again!" said the brass at Monogram to their opposite numbers at Revell), it's not bad.  The interior is really basic, but when it's all closed up, there's not too much to see, anyway.

I look forward to seeing your build of that one, too!

I've got all the PE for the interior and exterior for it, so that should spruce it up some.  Like you said though you barely see any of it anyway.  I'm alright with that though, there will be lots of progress pics along the way, so it will be seen, and I'll know it's there! 

Thanks Striker!  The troop seats were scratch built.  Whiskey 7 has seats from an R4D, so the kit pan seats weren't going to work.  I'm hoping to get done with the putty, sand, prime routine soon and get painting.

Very nice build, Keyda! I'm impressed with your cockpit detail, especially the throttle cluster. And those troop seats - did they come with the kit or did you scratch build them? They look great!

The C-47 is one of my favorite WWII aircraft. I'll be watching your progress!

Here's the Revell 1/48 kit in MB markings that I did many years ago.  My wife has since helped with the weathering by hitting it with Windex (yeah, it had gathered some dust) once when it was on an open shelf before I had an enclosed display case for it.  Truth, it may have improved it!

 

 

I try.  I love being at the museum.  It's honestly been my savior.  I lost both my parents less than 2 years apart, Dad at 62, Mom at 61.  Going to the museum gives me something to look forward to, and makes me feel like I'm a part of something.  I'm helping keep the history alive. 

Very nice!  Mini W7, and Mini MMB will both be kept in an enclosed portion of my stand, once we get around to enclosing it.  I've got a whole thing planned out!

This will be the 2nd Mini Whiskey 7.  The first one I built I donated to the museum, and it resides in their gift shop.

My love lies with Whiskey 7, but MMB is pretty cool too.  An interesting fact about her is she's never been out of service.  She's been flying since 1945.  I do plan on doing a Mini MMB this winter.  I feel fortunate to be a part of the museum.  I'll be headed there tomorrow morning.

Me and my kiddo last summer with MMB at the airshow.  We camped out for a few days to help out, even got to take a flight.

One of my favorite pics, tip of my boot and the shadow of the plane on the ground.  That is something I can't do in Whiskey 7, lol.

Thanks!  I've got two more of these kits in the stash, one C-47 and one AC-47.  I have the Trumpeter kit as well, but not sure which route I'm going with that one yet.  I have to think of space restrictions, lol.

Don't forget that you can use styrene strips or stretched sprue to fill gaps so you can rescribe them safely.

 

I like to use Apoxie Sculpt to fill the larger ones, it smooths with water before it dries.  Then I usally use PPP or dissolved putty. 

Now that hunting season, and the holiday festivities are over I can get back to my regularly scheduled programming, lol. 

Round one of putty, sand, prime, repeat is done.  Getting better, but still have a few more rounds in order.

Don't forget that you can use styrene strips or stretched sprue to fill gaps so you can rescribe them safely.

I have a complete airplane now, and a lot of work to make it pretty!  I've got some fairly decent sized gaps to fill, a lot of seam sanding, and some gouges that I made while cutting out the hatch to fix.  I usually don't show the "ugly".  But I figured this time, why not?!  I've been down this road with the first one, and I managed, so I'm sure I can manage this one too.

The other side ft nice and snug, with just a little "well" to fill, this side....not so much.

A couple of nasty gouges I made.  Oh well.

I also made a mess with the glue.  Again, not the first time, lol.

Another pretty big gap.

I'll likely get started on the putty, sand, prime repeat process tomorrow. 

It can be challenging some times, but it adds another level to the build itself, at least for me it does.  It certainly adds time to it, lol.

I finished up the passenger seats.  I added the parachute that is kept behind the cockpit.

Glued the fuselage and wing halves together.

Got the underside of the wings cut out to add the PE flaps.  But that is for another day.

I'm going to have a ton of putty and sanding to do.  Oh well, I'll get through it.  Not entirely sure when though, leaving for hunting middle of next week.  So it might be a little while.

I really admire you folks who do this type of work. scratch-building is an art form...

Well after a few of the other volunteers that help work on Whiskey 7 "requested" some additonal detail in the cockpit I added a few more things, lol.  Both of which are barely visible, but oh well.

The first was the landing gear lock release handle next to the pilot's seat on the floor.  The second thing was a very small yellow dinosaur that is on a bungee just above the intrustment panel.  I decided on my own to add the black binder, and the pouches for the headsets in the cubby above the red door. 

Some of the stuff is so small my camera won't focus on it, lol.  I've started working on the passenger seats, and hope to have those finished up and the fuse closed up in the next few days. 

Got a couple hours of time at the bench this afternoon.  I think I'm calling the cockpit done.  Added the seats, foot pedals, anti-slip strips, and some weathering.

I may stare at it, and see if there is anything else I want to add.  Now I have to get working on the passenger seats. 

Count me in for watching this build. 

Got some painting done on Saturday, glued in a few bits in the cockpit as well.  Starting to look like Whiskey 7's cockpit.

Hopefully I get some time later on today to start adding some details.  Then it will be moving on to the rest of the interior.

Mike, it was a lot of fun recreating that stuff.  It adds a lot to the building process.  I might even get into detailing the landing gear bays a bit on this one.  I didn't do that the first time around.  The model was glued down to a base, so you wouldn't see up there anyway.  But since I built that first one, I've stood on the tire, and worked in the gear bay, lol. 

Hoping to get some time this afternoon to work on it.
