1/48 Airfix Supermarine Spitfire PR.XIX - Completed
Posted by BrandonK on Monday, January 20, 2020 3:29 PM

I'mworking on another Spitfire for a GB and thought I would build this one along side just to get it done and it would build faster with another one anyway. This is a very nice kit and it has great details. The fit is excellent and it gives you options for posable control surfaces, all of them, as well as up or down landing gear and weighted or not tires. I would highly recommend this kit if you want a nice PR bird. I should be in paint in the next couple of days, I just need to mask the canopy now.

I painted up the pilot too as this will be a in flight bird. Once he was done and assigned to his plane he had trouble fitting in. Apparently he is 7 feet tall. So, he was asked to surrender his parachute so he would fit under the canopy and then we had to amputate both feet so he could reach the pedals. All is well and he is cleared for service and passed his flight physical.

Thanks for looking.

I feel sorry for the pilot. All that he had to go through, and he ended up with a plastic rod up his  .......uh, nevermind. Poor guy.

I think that's the first 5 bladed prop I've seen.

Looking good. Yes

I managed to get this bird painted. I did preshade this one and I can just barely see it with the paint on. I don't think the camera is picking that up, but it's there. I was kinda surprised to see how close in tone these colors were. It's an interesting take on the Spit post-war. I think this may be one of the best looking Spits they did, even with a simple scheme. Next is the clear coat and pin wash.

I'm calling this WIP done. This is a nice kit and if you like Spitfires I highly recommend it, it builds great.

Paints were all Vallejo RAF colors and Tamiya clear for decals and MM Semi gloss for final coat.

Thanks, and I dropped that extra pic. I built 2 Spits at the same time and the rest is history.

I'd like to have a Seefire, I don't have one yet. I really like the look of the 5 blade and dual props.

Thanks for the chuckle (spit my coffee out)....LOL.

Looking great Brandon, especially your figure painting.  Very realistic.
