1/48 Tamiya Fw 190A-3 - Finished
Posted by Mopar Madness on Sunday, February 9, 2020 2:56 PM

Hello friends. I had such a great experience building the Hasegawa 190 I thought I would take a crack at the Tamiya kit. Nothing special here folks, just an out of the box ordinary 190.

Howsy friends. Well I've been laid off so I haven't been focusing on models lately but I did manage to get the landing gear done for this bird.

OK, this one is taking WAY too long! Black and blue oil filters have been applied along with some very mild streaking.  Next it's on to a flat coat then weathering to tone down the color variations.

Hello friends! A little light chipping for tonight then it's on to final assembly and weathering.  I can see the finish line.

Great job.  Can I ask how you applied the decals?  I have some trouble with those smaller ones and the walkway dashes as I always seem to get some silvering.  Thanks.

Thanks John!  The key is a good solid gloss coat. When you apply the decal over a gloss finish the decal lays down smoothly and minimizes the opportunity for any air to be trapped under the decal. Trapped air is what causes the silvering. After the decal settles I lightly rub a moist Q-tip over it to squeeze out any trapped air pockets.  Make sure you give your decal a good 15 minutes to settle before you do this. Next, I apply some MicroSol to "melt" the decal to the gloss surface.  When everything looks good, I shoot a layer of matt finish over the entire kit.

I managed to miss this too, somehow.

This is one of my favorite 190 schemes, never been brave enough to try it. Guess I'm intimidated by the big black decals.

You really nailed it. That might be the best drybrushing work I've seen. Your attention to detail is first class and the overall finish is fanastic, Chad.

Thanks.  I am not really waiting before "blotting" to try to push out all the water.  I'll give that a try!

One of my fave schemes on 190s. Very good looking bird. You did superb "new" work on this one.
