Aggieman

That's a nice start on your Zerstoerer.

This one has long been a favorite of mine among Luftwaffe aircraft, dating way back to when I was a wee lad and built the old Monogram 1/72 kit.  In more recent years, I've done different variants of this bird in the three primary aircraft scales:  Revell's big 1/32 Bf110G-4, Monogram Pro-Modeler's 1/48 Bf110G-4, and Monogram's 1/72 Bf110E-1 in that Wespen scheme you are doing with this kit.  I still have another of the 1/72 kits in my stash, and a 1/48 Dragon Bf110D-3.

Fun story on my build of that 1/32 kit - I finished that one off shortly before I took my family on a surprise trip to Disney World in 2013 doing a bunch of mottling all across the build (much like a classic He219 finish), and I stuck a "hidden Mickey" among all that mottling.  For any who don't know, if you are in Disney World, if you look hard enough, you'll find Mickey Mouse symbols (the two small circles, or ears, over the larger circle, or face) hidden in plain sight.  Did that for my then 7-year-old daughter's amusement.

Ha!  I may do the same.  Let's see if you can spot it.  I always liked Galland's armed Mickey Mouse symbol on his Messerschmitts.

I'll be curious to see your take on this. I'm building the Pro Modeler G night fighter now

I have that kit as well. I hear it's not bad.

The office is looking great!  This one has been on my list as well, but I've been wary for the same reasons you've mentioned. I'm interested in how you get along with the kit.

Thanks Hoss.  I will advise accordingly.  I'm looking forward to diving in.  I have my sandpaper and a brand new silver Sharpie ready!

Don't forget the 110 as a night fighter, Joe.  Probably the role it was best at.

Ahh, I was unaware of that. I knew the Me 410 was used alot at night. Or was it the 210?  Perhaps both.  I suppose something fairly easy to shoot down would flurish hidden in the night sky.  I may need one of those someday.

Now we're talkin' Joe! I love the 110, probably my fave next to the 190.  Of course I'm in!

Good to have you Chad.

Your pit is looking fantastic as usual and the wasp art will make this one look even SUPER interesting.

I know what you mean about the Eduard pe color selection which is crazy. They also do the same thing with other pe sets for US Navy jets were the grey is too light on certain parts but as you said I can live with it.

Thanks PJ.  Interstingly, I was looking at the C version in my stash and it comes with 02 and 66 option.  WTH? Wish I would have looked in there earlier.....der.

1/48 Eduard Messerschmitt Bf 110E 5/ZG Wespen "Herbert Kutscha" (FINISHED)
Posted by lawdog114 on Saturday, April 18, 2020 4:04 AM

Hello folks,

Here's one I have yet to build, the Me 110. I've always kind of liked this plane eventhough it was considered "meat on the table" for the allies.  Apparently it did find a role as a bomber destroyer and it was used heavily on the Eastern front for ground attack (perhaps other fronts as well).  I'll be doing one such machine from the Russian front, the famous wasp painted nose "Wespen" of 5/ZG.  This particular machine was flown by Herbert Kutscha who would have 47 kills, 22 while flying a 110.

I plan to do this with the normal camo without the white wash as seen on the cover art above.  I look forward to getting to this part, but it's my understanding this could take awhile (more on that below).

Of course I did a bit of research on this kit before I started.  It's my understanding it's well detailed but this kit is not Eduard's best work fitwise, particularly in the nose gun bay (if you want it closed) and engine nacelle fit.  Sounds like fun. This is their Profipack edition so it comes with extras like color photoetch and canopy masks.

I started with the cockpit.  Like their Hellcat, and perhaps others, it's average on detail and depends heavily on photoetch.  Honestly, I'm just not impressed with Eduard's cockpits.  Maybe I'm just spoiled by Tamiya's latest offerings.  For the life of me I can't figure out why they give you an RLM 02 colored instrument panel, but the cockpit should be RLM 66 for this time period, which they even recommend. It was well done so I used it in lieu of the decal.  I can live with it.  I used XF-24 Dark Grey for my RLM 66.  Their PE belts are a nice enhancement. There was a bunch of other small PE bits, like handles on the ammo drums, but after I sent several flying trying to attach them, I gave up and went with good enough.  I figured the IP and belts were the important additions.

I was able to finagle it to the fuselage.  So far so good.

I should be closing it up soon.  I  have their C model in my stash which I was gonna build along side this, but I ultimately decided to see how this one goes first. If this is torture I don't want to be subjected to it twice!
