Thanks John. As I mentioned to Mongoose, I use a base and my computer monitor with a hi res photo of a field and sky. I attempt to match the season / weather between the photo and subject. I also have a "daylight" lamp that I shine right over the plane which does a pretty good job replicating sunlight and strong shadows.

Hoss what are you using for a green screen program to put the background in?

 

I actually just use my computer monitor and high res photo for the background when I take the photos. I try to find a high res photo of a field or airstrip on the internet that somewhat matches the colors of the base. I have a few different background photos that I pair with my various bases - Britain, France, Russia, desert, etc.

Thanks Mongoose. I was experimenting with the black/brown mix with a pattern that follows the rivet and panel lines a little further than usual. I like the way it came out. Thanks again.

I'm calling this one done. 

The early Fw 190's with the JG 2 eagle markings are a favorite of mine and I've been looking forward to this one for a while. "Black 11" W. Nr. 2187 is a unique subject -- not many completed builds of this scheme online. Lt. Herbert Hufnagel was KIA in this aircraft on Nov 7, 1942, when his unit attacked Allied bombers over Brest.  

The PCM kit results in a nice build. The detail (rivets, hinges, missing tail light, etc.) is on the sparse side, but the panel lines are restrained. The resin wheels and landing gear bay are quite nice. The molding of parts could be more crisp and several parts are quite thick vs. scale. The landing gear mounting approach is non-existent.  The kit took a lot more work than the typical Tamiya or Eduard kit. I was in problem solving and scratch building mode for almost every build step. I really struggled with rescribing panel lines and recovering detail lost during sanding. But overall it was a fun build.

The build was completely OOB except for Master barrels and pitot tube. 

The main paints were Mr. Color lacquers. The final flat coat was Model Master Flat Clear Lacquer. 

Firsts for me included using epoxy (lots) and using CA glue mixed with dental acrylic powder for gap filling and part repair. I also tried out CA accelerator -- good stuff.

Another welcome to FL. I've yet to visit St Augustine and we are planning to come up for a short getaway sometime this winter. From what I hear, you have chosen a lovely place.

The decals supplied with this kit are from Cartograph and they are superb. They went on without any issues. 

I then did a Flory wash to bring out the panel lines - gray for the underside and black for the topside. After the wash I really appreciated the thin, shallow panel lines and features of this kit - very crisp. I then did some fading and shading with lighter and darker versions of the base colors and toned down the contrast a tiny bit on the black and white markings. A thinned black/brown mix was then applied on the panel lines for some basic grime, exhaust, smoke and general weathering. 

It's coming to life. Landing gear and prop next.

Welcome to my home state. I love St Augustine and have been up there a bunch of times. I'm about an hourish away down south in Central FL. 
Looks like very good progress so far and will look very nice once finished. The paint looks outstanding.
