WIP Academy 1/72 B-17F Flying Fortress Memphis Belle

Ezra's been busy with extracurricular activities.  One was carving a couple of pumpkins as he will be in Columbus on Halloween.  We did manage in taking care of the bomb area.

I love that you are able to bring your grandson into building these models.  Y'all are doing a great job on the B-17.  Also really like the stamp collection.

 

As for the stamps, since it is just pictures that Ezra sees, he has a Dinosaurs sheet that he likes.  As for value and or historical knowledge, he's still a bit too young.  The WWII topical collection are more for my interest than anything else.

When I started collecting stamps in the late 80's early 90's, my choices of WWII stamps were not only limited to the Third Reich, but was considered a contraband.  So I had to be extremely discreet.  Thank you sir for the support, read, and reply.

The Bombay area has been semi-completed.  Only the exoskeleton has been painted and weathered with Tamiya Weatherine Master.

At this point, it's a matter of bombs to be assembled and painted.  Once that's done, a little by little the interior of the B-17 "Memphis Belle" comes together.

This non-Corsair set of two stamps depict a P-61 Black Widow from Sierra Leone and a B-17 Flying Fortress from the Marshall Islands.  The Flying Fortress is a very cool stamp due to the fact that Ezra and I, WIP is an Academy B-17 Flying Fortress the "Memphis Belle"!

I have these single Corsair stamps.  They are printed from Mozambique, Marshall Islands, Sierra Leone, Republic De Djibouti, Nevis, Maldives, and Republique Centrafricaine.

As is the case, when building a Topical collection and or on a specific subject, you tend to stray to a completely different country.  Which in my humble opinion, it's a great way to learn different cultures.

What's fun and exciting is to open up mail only to discover stamps that you ordered have arrived!  In earnest, stamps of this sort that details around F4U Corsairs and WWII subjects tend to be very inexpensive.  

But due to the fact that this year marks 75 years ago in that anything to reflect WWII arises, these Corsair stamps normally should cost $0.75.  But due to the 75th Anniversary of WWII, the cost is three times higher.  

And that especially cast a high priced shadow on stamps that feature US aircraft.  Mustangs, Corsair, Thunderbolt, Warhawks, Hellcats, Wildcats, and TBF Avengers seems to allocate the higher prices.

I've also noticed heavy bombers like the B-17 Flying Fortress and the B-24 Liberator are popular subjects.  Of course Hurricanes, Spitfire, and Avro Landcasters make up the difference.  

One stamp that has my attention is a sheet that contains one stamp and that would be a "Shinden"!  As I collect more stamps of WWII aircraft, rest assured, I'll be adding more in the way of subjects.

I just wanted the opportunity to share this sheet issued from the Marshall Island of stamps that depict WWII aircraft. 

Below the Marshall Island WWII aircraft sheet, depicts a B-17 Flying Fortress single stamp also from the Marshall Island.  Having this B-17 stamp, it perfectly highlight the Academy B-17 build with Ezra.  It ties in very well from two different hobbies.

And the last item is a limited edition Atlas of WWII!  It's a very early birthday gift from my younger brother.

Next up is the bombay section.  I had to do this part of the assembly as it was a very tedious process.  Over all everything went extremely well as nothing was assembled upside down or backwards!  Lol!

As always the case, I won't let Ezra touch the Tamiya Weatherine Master Set.  I don't want him to handle the powder's, that show up in the building of any kit.  

 On the "Memphis Belle" cockpit, Weatherine Master A (Sand, light sand, mud) was utilized with a little mixture of Weatherine Master F (Titanium and light gun metal).  

After the application of the Weatherine powder's, a very light coat of Model Master 4636 Flat Clear Acrylic was very lightly applied with a very small brush, a number 10/0.  Ezra did the light application with the MM Flat Clear Coat.  I personally always add a flat or gloss clear coat (Depending on the type of finish that'll adjust around per application) to hold the Weatherine powders in.

Sometimes, having little fingers helps, especially with Ezra.  I had issues with the instrament panel decal.  He was able to center the decal.

No way it's your heritage my friend.  I've had to cut loose more than one part and redo it because I've screwed up.  Happens to all of us.

I wanted to take this time out and to address these glasses called "Mighty Sight".  They can be worn like I do, as reading glasses or onto prescription glasses. 

What makes these glasses fantastic is the built in LED.  Plus they charge up with a USB.  It's especially great at night and works wonders while building a kit! I purchased mine at Walmart.  

Keep the receipt as if anything happens, you get 90 days for a refund or in my case an even exchange for a new one as one of my glasses malfunctioned with the LED lights.  It's such a great product, I have 2.

Ezra did the painting with Model Master Green Zinc Chromate.  We were going to paint the seats and maybe assemble a few more things.  But he requested bath time, he keeps us very busy and very active!  Lol!

Thank you for the heads up!  Mrs. Toshi said that since I'm Japanese, I do everything backwards!  Lol!  Thanks again goldhammer.

I think I should be watching cartoons with Ezra instead of attempting to assemble "Memphis Belle" backward. 

Question....looks like part k27 is installed upside down from what the instructions call for...or maybe an optical illusion.

Here we are at step number one.  Ezra is much more interested in the Tamiya stand then building the cockpit.  Lol!  Some days he's on it, and some days he's not.

Ezra and I are getting ready to primer the Academy B-17 "Memphis Belle".  We are using a economical Rustoleum Gray Primer.

Enjoy the time Toshi, they grow up way too fast. I will be watching this build with interest. Incidently, I am going to have to start working with PE soon. Is Ezra available for consultation and if so, whats his price? Chocolate ice cream, milkshakes????

If you do manage a visit to Dayton, plan on 2-3 days.  You will enjoy it more and will be way less stressful on everyone than if you try to see everything in one day.

Think it's going to be hard to keep hands off her when the little guy isn't there.
