nice job so far.  Its a great little kit, though I cracked my canopy at the very last step mounting in the open position.

Thanks,

John

I like the way this plane is coming out.

Greg

Coming along nicely. Are you using MRP acrylic lacquers or water-based acrylic? I've used some of both and like them too so far.

That's for the WIP. I hope to build this kit someday.

Thanks Greg. I'm using the MRP acrylic lacquers. I haven't tried the water-based yet.

The build is now complete with no major issues - just some minor cleanup here and there.

For the engine, I painted per the Tamiya callouts, applied a wash and drybrushed a bit.

MRP paints were used for the main colors -- insignia white for the underside, intermediate blue for the sides and sea blue for the tops of the wings and fuselage.

Here's the underside.

Interestingly, the Tamiya profile and most others I found show a relatively straight demarcation between the dark and light blue on the fuselage.  The one photo I found of the plane online clearly shows a more jagged edge, which is what I tried to capture.

The photos don't show it clearly, but there's quite a bit of shading and fading on various panels across the sea and intermediate blue sections.

Although I've tried them before on other builds, I'm really happy with the MRP paints. The colors seem spot on, they spray wonderfully, and they dry quickly to a smooth, semi-gloss finish. I'm going to try to apply the decals without a gloss coat and see what happens. Fingers crossed.

Looking sweet Hoss.  It's an oldie but goodie.  Practically builds itself. I look forward to your progress.

Thanks Lawdog - it's coming along.

1/48 Tamiya F4F-4 Wildcat, VF-22 (Complete)

It's time for a Pacific theater US Navy plane. I decided I needed a light duty kit and the Tamiya 1/48 Wildcat is a nice little project. The kit is relatively straightforward with excellent fit and crisp detail.

I've decided to go for the cover art scheme of VF-22, aboard the USS Independence. (I have Lawdog's recent Wildcats bookmarked for help and inspiration.) I'll use MRP paints for the main camo and plan on trying a few new techniques as well.

The office is complete. I found out during the build that no seat belts are included (the kit's from the mid-90's).  I ordered some and will install them toward the end. Main build is next. Thanks for looking.
