Can you walk me through the AK chipping solution process. How simplified is it? Just the Cliff's Notes. ;)

 

Thanks Britt.  I'm not doing WIPs anymore, just posting the finished pics.  The chipping is pretty easy.  It's essentially the same as the hairspray technique.  Spray some silver then brush or spray on the fluid.  Once dry, spray your paint. Take a wet stiff brush or toothpick and chip away to reveal the silver. I find that tape will remove chunks of paint too, depending what your going for.  

I recently discovered liquid frisket which is my new favorite for this effect. Just sponge it on before painting, then peel it off.  Here's how it looks.....

LD, question about the chipping fluid.  After you laid down the aluminum, I beleive that's when you sprayed the chipping fluid.  Do you let the chipping fluid completely cure before you apply the surface color?  Do you let the surface color completely cure before you wet and "chip"?

 

Yep, when the fluid is dry, I spray the camo.  I usually chip it pretty much immediately after spraying as in this case, the Tamiya paint dried very quickly.  I use a wet stubby bristled paint brush (I use an old Testors one with the white handle) and scrub it for the desired effect.  The water activates the fluid under the paint and it comes up. You can use a blunt toothpick for smaller chips.  Tape will pull it off too, like where I had the yellow leading edges taped off for painting. That's mostly from tape removal.

Funny thing, I've been messing with mine a bit this week. It's a phenomenal kit right out of the box, isn't it? 

To replicate the cockpit color I used Dark yellow with a brown wash that turned out almost as nice as yours. I'm almost ready for some primer on mine. I'm going to be brave and attempt that NMF with spots, box art, scheme and see if I can do it justice.
