My rendition of Rot Dreizehn is now complete. Since the last update, gloss coat and decals, weathering and flat coat were applied along with the final doodads to finish the build.
I tried Mr. Color GX100 Super Clear for the gloss coat thinned 1:2 with Mr. Color Leveling thinner and really liked it. It dried instantly and was great for the decals and washes, etc.
Eagle Cal decals were used along with some of the kit decals for various markings and I wasn't 100% happy. They dried with a rough surface texture that I needed to coat and sand down a bit. It may have been that they were about 20 years old but not sure.
I used my typical Flory dark dirt wash for panel lines and used quite a few pastels and pigments for dust and dirt.
I used a 1:1 mix of Alclad Matte and Flat to give a sheen a bit more than dead flat and probably applied too much because it took a while to dry.
Photos showed that the back side of the props were heavily worn but the rest of the machine was well maintained with a nominal amount of dust and dirt, but not alot of chipping and scratching. So that's what I tried to capture.
Overall, it was a fun kit to build. It's a little more complex and robust than the Eduard Gustav, of which I've built several. Eduard gets the edge in exterior detail but the engine in the Tamiya kit is a nice touch. Add-ons included guns and cannons for the pods and of course the decals.
Enjoy the photos and thanks for looking!
