We build them...ever think about flying them?

MMM Mustang! Drool, drool! Just to start up a RR Merlin would be a thrill! That, or any hose-nose with a PW 2800! But then, who wouldn't want to bore holes in the sky on top of a J-79...ok, make it two J-79's in an F-4! Too many choices...brain hurt!

There are three flyable P-47 Thunderbolts within easy driving distance of where I live. Every time I see one of them at a show, I just envy the hell out of the guy who is flying it. Closest I will ever get is "Jane's WW2 Fighters" I'm afraid.

OOOWWWW!!! Brain hurts - - tooooo many choices. P-51, A-4, F-15, X-15, Space Shuttle, Spitfire, Mosquito, ...................something fast with the ability to really kick you back into the seat with the g forces...........

I've been lucky. I was an air crew member on the T-33A and TF-102A. I also got to fly several times in the F-4D and E. I also got several flights in the T-39 in the right seat. That is a great acft to fly. I was able to HOTAS on most of the aircraft I have flown in. With over 400 hours of flying I never got sick.

I also have my private pilots certificate and just recently broke the 1,000 hour mark.

Actually.. An A1 spad with minigun pods.. Ehm.. Actually, anything that has miniguns bolted to it..

I would love to fly a P-51 or a P-40. I would just like to experience what the heroes from WW2 did.

An F4-U Corsair, without a doubt. Second choice: P-38 Lightning.

Oh, the choices... SR-71 would be just TOO cool, or maybe the X-27. Of course, if anything were possible, I'd take the Bell X-1 out for a spin, but last I checked my name isn't Chuck.

I definitely would choose F-14A Tomcat from VF-143 (Pukin' Dogs) or F-14D Tomcat from VF-31 (Tomcatters)..... To be able to go subsonic and still hunt down things, I would wisely spend the hour hunting down Osama bin Laden and his idiotic friends. Imagine all those arsenals at your hand... it'd be a leisure flight, swooping below flight deck and viewing the action upclose watching those bullets and missles hit the targets right in the MIDDLE!!! Just cant beat that... A guy can only dream... Oh well, only if I wasnt born deaf, otherwise I would be flying F-14's for real or be in the SEALs.... Guess it was in God's plans for me to just be a law-abiding citizen of the United States.

I've kinda lucked out in this catagory... I got to ride in a B-17 a few years back when I was a volunteer at the museum at March AFB, CA. Also, being a big fan of airplanes with red stars, I got to fly an An-2 and a Yak-52 on my first trip to Russia. As for that "dream flight" - Any member of the Su-27 family would do very well indeed!

My Dad was a P-47 pilot in the Pacific, so of course, I'd love to get my hands on a jug. (Hey! Clean up your minds there!)

I work as a Flight Test Engineer, and I'm currently writing this post from a hut on a dispersal in the middle of RAF Waddington in England (F-15Es, Tornado F3s, Harrier GR7s and E3 AWACs are the local specialities)!

If I had to choose one aircraft for a joyride it would have to be the English Electric Lightning!

There's a company offering joyrides in South Africa on two seater Lightnings and Buccaneers.

Definitely an Su-37 flounder or a MiG 25 at Mach three... Or maybe a P-47 Thunderbolt...

Like Bubbamoosecat, I have had a ride in a B-17...awesome, and would have loved to pilot it! As in the fighter category...the choices are too many. I am a big P-51 fan, P-47, P-38, fw-190, bf-109. I also like the C-47 in the multi-engined class, P-61, Mosquito...better stop there or this post could go on and on and...

I would love to fly anything! Closest I got was a Piper Cherokee for my 13th birthday and the pilot let me take the controls (in the air), kinda made my mom nervous because she was in the back seat. to answer the question though, P-38.

An F-105D Thunderchief with the ThunderstickII/LORAN upgrade! And, an A-6E Intruder, and maybe an Su-27 Flanker, just so I could experience vectored thrust!

I like the Me 163. A..kicking action for a few seconds when you thunder in the sky, and then the thrill to finding a landingzone as a glider without getting exploded with rest fuel on bord. huuuaah

If I only had the controls for an hour, then I'd go for either a B-17G or a B-24J. But if I had one I could just fly around whenever I wanted then I would have to have a F4U or a Razorback Jug.

YF-23 - the hottest plane that should have been. but would like to own a PT-17 or WACO - at least in realm of possibility.

For the -51 fans, go to www.stallion51.com. They have a 2-seat P(F)-51 with dual controls, located in Florida. They offer several levels of flight from "rides" to checkout for those with time in high performance aircraft. price is not cheap. I think it is close to $2000 for the basic orientation level, but how much do some spend on models and supplies? I'd bet you all would remember a P-51 ride longer than building any model! And where and when else will most non-millionaires ever get to fly in a P-51?
Also check out the Collings Foundation. They have 2 WW2 flying aircraft that they offer rides - a B-17G and a B-24J. About $400 for only a 30 minute ride - but again, where else will you get the chance? They do have an F-4D Phantom, plus many other warbirds, but don't offer rides. I think the EAA may also do the same with a different B-17 (www.b17.org). About the same price. Both tour all around the country. Check their websites for locations.
And who says you have to fly at mach 2 to have fun? (that is probably a lot of work really - NO time for mistakes or malfunctions). Flying around in a Cessna 150 at 100kts on a clear day cross country is fun - and on those days with turbulence, an experience! And moderately affordable too. You can take lessons in a Decathalon and do unusual attitudes (loops, rolls, spins, inverted) too.

I guess teh T-41 isn't really sexy enough, though I have over 300 hrs of Instruction Given, in the A, B, and C models. I tell you what, going at Vx with 210 hp min weight with a climb prop from sea level will really get you happy. We used to call them U-2 takeoffs, and loved to show those guys in the black jet how to to it right. At least as right as you could in a 172. The T-34 is fun too, but if I could just sterap ohn a pair of spurs and slide into just one F-104... even just to taxi it and make the engine grrrrrrrowlllll.
