Time for me to jump on the A 10 bandwagon, ok it isn't the cutest of aircraft but the slo, mo, film i saw from the inside of a target tank as it got shreaded by THAT gun was a thing of beauty. that alone should keep it out of the running for the ugly vote ..Greg

As far as the A-10 is concerned, aesthetically speaking I've never been a fan of it myself. But as a true believer of "Beauty is as beauty does" I cannot deny that the Warthog is absolutely gorgeous.

I heard that Starfix is releasing that kit in 1/64th scale, amid a huge fanfare. Rumors are that "Baghdad Bob" will be doing the T. V. commercials. I've got to start saving for it . . .the retail price will be $.99 at Wall Mart. If I can find one shall I get you one as well ? They're sure to sell out fast. Imagine ! An Arsenal-Delanne 10-C2 of your VERY OWN ! ! !

You have got to be kidding! The 104? I guess if you walked into a room and Kate Bosworth and Tammy Faye were there you would not know the difference. Those 30s French bombers are UGLY maybe one of those guys designed the Airtruk.

1: Shorts Seamew
2: Fairey Gannet
3: Super Guppy
4: Grumman C-2 Greyhound
5: Republic F-105 Thunderchief
(snip)

Of course the C-2 is also the most gorgeous a/c in the world when it shows up on the ball w/about a 1,000 lbs of "pony express" (mail) for the battle group....Smile [:)]

Here are 3 that I find particularly unappealing to the eye.I know that others have mentioned French aircraft, I think this one is atypical. Some great stomach churners, there ! Keep 'em coming !

WELL fancy calling the Gannet UGLY!! Shame on you. And the little Seamew.
I'll grant you that the Airtruck wasn't tthe best looker of all time but she was practicle.
My vote for the ugliest a/c would go for the French inter-war bombers. Now they landed on the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down!!
Also I think that the Westland P12 tandem wing beach straffer would finish well up in the ugly awards.
I flew in Gannets in the RAN and loved them.

It's true what they say I guess, beauty (and ugly) really is in the eye of the beholder.

Based solely on looks, here's my ugliest aircraft list...They're all great (some are legendary) aircraft, but still qualify as ugly. No significance in the
order listed...

F-4 Phantom
A-6 Intruder
A-10 Warthog
C-130 Hercules
Victor Tankers
DC/KC-10
A-7 Corsair
Harrier GR-3
IL-76
MiG-23/27
F-117A Nighthawk
Dassault Rafale (Just doesn't look right IMHO)

SU-27? Too much going on there. Someone took an eagle, tomcat, and a hornet threw them in the blender and sukhoi design bureau opened that blender and said "Ya looks good, make fly." AIRTRUK look it up!!!

British planes come in two types: 1: poetry in flight and 2: ugly beyond all possible belief. In category 2, I nominate the Bristol Freighter of the '50's. A folk tale of flying tells of the Freighter coming into Boston airport way back when. The ATC supposedly contacted the captain of this nightmare and in the process of giving him landing clearance, quizzically inquired,"Uh, sir, tell me; did you make it yourself?" Sadly the reply is unknown.....

This is easy for me - the McDonnell F3H-2 Demon. When taxiing, the nose would bob up and down enough to make the poor pilot seasick. It was underpowered, too.

Although you all have valid arguments I must say that that ythe all time ugliest piece of kit to hit the sky has to be the Hawker Tempest. I mean.... it has all the right lines, but non of them are in the right places

Another candidate - the Mignet "Flying Flea" homebuilt from France.

While I still think the YF-22 is near the top of the ugly pile I did forget a group of ugly a/c.

Everything British minus the Spitfire.

Gregers, the one illustrated above is I think one of the most aesthetically pleasing of the ekranoplanes... Check out this one, the Bartini VVA-14...

Now that's pretty ugly..., but still beautiful in a way..

Only Revell has issued one of them ekranoplanes.

Lots of work to get it right, though. I wish someone else would kit the other ekranoplanes...
