Ta 152 cockpit finished
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, June 3, 2005 7:02 PM
I finished the cockpit of Dragon's 1/48 Ta 152H-1 today. I'm using Eduard's photoetched set. This is my third Ta 152, and the second with Eduard's PE.

I found some good reference pics on the web, so I added wiring, hoses, and linkages from wire and solder. The pics I found were of a late model Fw 190D-9, but many of the details are the same.

Now to get the engine and cockpit into the fuselage and close it. Next, I'll move to the wheel wells, landing gear, and tailwheel.

Looks good Pix.......
And by the way, can you please give the link to the websites you found with the pics of the 190D-9? I've got a TriMaster Dora I'd like to dress up a little......any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, mate!

Cheers, LeeTree

Pix,
Phenomenal work on the Ta-152 cockpit, as usual. I can only dream of someday achieving your level of craftsmanship.

Thanks RadMax, Lee, Rick, and yardbird ! !

RadMax - I'm not really crazy, I just like adding as much detail as I possibly can.

Lee - here's the link: http://p069.ezboard.com/fluftwaffeexperten71774frm69.showMessage?topicID=46.topic
The aircraft is a D-13 (the recently restored "Yellow 10), so some of the details are closer to a Ta 152 than a D-9. Hope they help !

Rick - I still haven't figured out a way to paint stencils in German. Maybe someday. Wink [;)]

yardbird - I learn the most when I make "mistakes,"and have to correct them. I no longer worry about screwing something up. I know I will. I just figure out how to redo what I don't like.

Thanks again !

Pix,

Once again I'm overwhelmed at looking at your work, it's truly outstanding. We all need something to shoot for, and you've definitely given us a target. I finally received the engine plug and decal sheet for the 190 GB for my Trimaster kit, and I 'm just not sure where to start. This is definitely no Tamiya kit. Cobrahistorian said we should all learn something, and I think that's a major understatement. This is for sure un-charted waters for me. I've never been good with PE parts, and this resin engine plug looks complicated as well. The directions say to add some plumbing to the part. I look at reference photos of the open wheel well, and it doesn't even look the same, at least to me. Sound confused?.....Yes I am.... totaly intimidated. A little wire here, a little solder here...I need some kind of direction! Then I'm supposed to sand the plug, and the CP tub so they'll fit. Plus don't forget to cut the PE instrument panel in two so It will fit right. I'm afraid to close the fuselage because I might have missed something. Okay.... I've got that out of my system. I guess what I'm trying to say is I have tons of respect for you and guys that bust out the saws and start cutting plastic and adding resin and PE without, it seems, any concern of a screw up. I'm humbled, but I'm determined to push thru this build and do the best I can. And like Cobra said, we're all here to learn something. I can only hope to someday get close to your skills. Like Gunny said,"SUCK IT UP SOLDIER"

sincerely,

Dragonfly

Thanks PakNick and dragonfly !

dragonfly - I believe that Tamiya's engineering prevents you from making errors, but also gives you no opportunity to learn how to fix things. That's one of the things I hate about Tamiya.
Try putting a coat of primer on the engine plug. It sometimes brings out detail that otherwise can't be seen.
As for closing the fuselage, the only things you need to add first are the gun barrels and the canopy crank. The interior of the cockpit can be painted later. Attaching the upper wings to the completed fuselage prevents filling and sanding at the wingroots. The fuselage will flex enough to align the bottom wing when it's time.

Here's an article on my build that may help:

Here is some good info on the landing gear:

And here are some line drawings in Zip files:
