Wow, those are some beautiful builds.  It didn't take me long to realize that you've built more in this year than I have in my lifetime :)

So, let's generalize for the sake of assumption..... 40 or so hours per build?  Almost half a year's worth of full-time work?  Wow!

Very impressive!  I have only completed two models out of four.  I completely took apart my Corsair, it was 75 % complete but some costly mistakes took place and I decided to do it all over again.  You certainly have a spirit of excellence when it comes to your projects.

Hi Bill,

Wow! I did'nt realise you had built that many this year! All of them are superb, you are really producing some amazing work, I hope that one day I'll produce something that looks as good.

Thanks for the show,

Darren.

Thanks qtaylor, Swanny, Ernie, Vinny, Dave, jcfay, Chris, Jimmy, and Darren !

Chris - I'm not actually a speed builder, I just have a LOT of time to build (I'm disabled). Most of the single-seaters took about 100 hours, and the P-61, Ju 88, Mosquito, and C-47 are more like 200. The Ta 152 and Ta 154 were about 150 hours. I spend 30 to 50 hours a week building.

I use a Canon PowerShot G5 (5 megapixel) camera. Since it's been replaced by their G7 (7 megapixel), these can be found fairly inexpensively. New, it was about $900, and I got mine for about $325 and traning in my PowerShot G2 (4 megapixel).

Thanks again ! I wonder what I'll be building next year? I still have six Trimaster Me 262s . . .

I noticed on a few of those that the elavators and rudders were a different shade of the base colour.  Is that to simulate the difference in the way paint looks on metal and cloth?

Pix,

You have been one busy hombre, my friend!  Big Smile [:D]  I'm retired, and I have only managed to complete 4 kits this year!  Your work is outstanding, and your retrospective clearly shows it.  I do, however, see a definite pattern of preference in your a/c choices....thanks for sharing with us all!

Wow Pix!  I thought I was doing good with 6 completed builds this year!  What type of display cases do you have to show off your completed models?  Thanks for sharing - I'm impressed with the awesome quality and quantity of your builds.  I always look forward to seeing your pics.  I just purchased a digital camera so hopefully I will be able to share some pics as well!

Thanks qtaylor, Rick, Brian, Joe, Matt, Mike, Steve, Mitch, and tigerman !

qtaylor - the C-47's fabric control surfaces show as a lighter color in wartime photos. They may have used an OD dope, rather than paint. The Nakajima aircraft that were unpainted had their fabric control surfaces (except rudders) prepainted with Nakajima Army Gray. These may have been made at a subcontractor's factory.

Brian - my interest is strictly 1/48 WW II aircraft. I tend to go for the more colorful or unusual markings, if they're available.

Steve - right now, I just use bookcases and a wall hutch for display. There are also eight 1/48 fighters atop each of my speaker cabinets. Eventually, I'll have a 1/48 multi-floor museum for display. There will be ropes, placards, and aviation art on the walls. I may even suspend some, like the NASM. I can't afford to have it built yet, though.

Mitch - the IDF A4N is one of the commission builds I mentioned. It will be finished very soon.

tigerman - I built Hasegawa's Val when it was released. It suffered damage the last time I moved. I plan to get another, as well as a Kate (when I can find them on sale).

Thanks again ! It was a great year of building fun for me !

When it comes to building aircraft, you're a heck of a lot more abled than most.  Considering the extra detail you usually put into your builds, perhaps you aren't a speed builder, but you certainly aren't a dawdler either.  Your 2005 collection is most impressive both in quantity and quality.Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]
