Hmm... might be "Hope and Glory". I remember watching that one-- it was a British film I believe. I'll have to check it out again to see....cmtaylor-- I was pretty sure it wasn't that one back when it was suggested-- but I rented it again and it wasn't the one. I hope I find it-- it's killing me not knowing LOL

I can't beleive that more people didn't list the Iron Eagle trilogy!! #3 was the best one. I really liked that fictional German fighter!! I laso would have to list Tora and Pearl Harbor and Flight of the Intruder and........ well I could go on forever here. They've got airplanes in them, right? If it has airplanes I'll watch it, don't care how cheesy it is, how badly acted, how badly directed! (I've got Flying Tigers on video, pay attention to the squadron hack, it's a real plane and the only one built. Wings magazine did an article on it a few years ago. Unfortunately I don't remember what it's called!)

One decent movie about the AVG would have to be "GOD IS MY COPILOT".
Gawd, I still remember SKYKING and WHIRLYBIRDS, too.
FLIGHT OF THE INTRUDER
BRIDGES AT TOKO-RI
THE MCCONNELL STORY

I'll throw some in that haven't been mentioned yet (at least, I don't think that they have!):

1941 - John Belushi topping off the tanks of a P-40 at a gas station. Hilarious!!!

Hart's War - Great scenes of P-51's busting the Luftwaffe and a train. Even includes the Tuskeege airmen.

Wing and a Prayer - Filmed during WWII, using actual carrier combat footage. Those are real Avengers flying in this movie. You oughta see how young Harry Morgan looks in this one. It's a GREAT movie!!!

The Great Santini - Robert Duvall as a Marine Vietnam-era fighter pilot flying F-4's. I've read the book, and, except for the aircraft (the book has Bull Meecham flying F-8 Crusaders), the movie is very close.

Saving Private Ryan - A quick scene of a P-51 busting a German tank, but, hey!! It does have an aircraft in it.....

Band of Brothers - Lots of C-47's, some P-47's, a few Spitfires, some P-51's..........................

It's hard to pin down down any ONE favorite movie or TV show. In addition to the above stuff, my other most-liked celluloid moving images are:

Flight of the Intruder

Final Countdown

Memphis Belle - both the documentary & the movie. I'm kinda biased on that one, as I'm from Memphis, and had the opportunity to climb around in the Belle as a kid when she sitting out at the Memphis International Airport rotting away back in the early '70's........I had no idea of the her historical significance at the time (I was only about 10 years old). I just knew she was a WWII bomber.

Discovery Wings Channel - My TV has permanent burn-in on the screen from this channel 8-))

And, does anyone remember a TV detective series called "Riptide", with Joe Penny and Perry King? They flew this old Vietnam-era Sikorsky helicopter (I think it was an H-34, but I'm not really sure). Hilarious show.

Strategic Air Command

Bombers B-52

The Bridges at Toko-Ri

Flying Leathernecks - Although, using F6F's as Zeroes was stretching it a bit.

The War Lover - Steve McQueen flying that B-17 like it was a fighter, buzzing the field, just makes you wanna start building a 1/32 Flying Fortress................... Anybody know where you can get that on DVD, by chance?

Hmmm Ok so Top-Gun did have some horrific acting but it featured one of my favorite planes!
1941 Who could forget that...Where else are you going to see a plane filling up at a service station!
Tora,Tora,Tora
Midway
Have to say fire-birds...again more horrific acting and an even sicker plot but there was the AH-64 feature that made sitting through the rest worth it!

I also like Discovery Wings
History channel used to have some good shows(Im pretty sure it was them) Wings of the Luftwaffe
Im sure there are others out there that I liked but Im drawing a blank....
Oh yeah anyone remember that tv show called Carrier? I think...that was iffy.

I loved airwolf, growing up...... also a movie called "Always".It was about wildland fires, they used old wwii aircraft to put out forest fires..... I dont know if this qualifies as a aviation movie or not, but the scenes of when the planes flew threw ball's of fire was pretty cool....
Midway was also cool, and an old Clint Eastwood movie, "Firefox" what kind of plane wasthat.... i wonder if anyone makes a kit for that?!

It's taken me a while to come across this thread, but HOLY COW! Midnightprowler! I thought I was the only one alive who ever saw the Whirlybirds, and that was the first on my list. Came on right after SeaHunt didn't it?
As for movies, let us not forget the very first '"Hells Angels".

Heck yeah Gary. I remember Riptide. Used to be one of my favorite shows. That big pink helo was hilarious. It was the biggest POS and was always breaking down on em.

And Final Countdown was a great flick. Could you imagine being an F14 pilot and getting to go back in time to do a supersonic flyby on some Zeros? LOL Sayonara sucka!!

My fave movies would be Memphis Belle, Pearl Harbor (too bad they had all that sappy love triangle crap going on), Battle of Britain, Airplane, Tora x3, Midway, Tuskegee Airmen, Enemy At the Gates, Pvt Ryan, Band of Bros., Heavy Metal

The best TV show would have to be Blacksheep Squadron.

Anyone remember that show in the 80s called Amazing Stories? How about the episode where the guy was stuck in the ball turret and the B17 was headed home all shot to pieces and the gear wouldn't extend. Hell of a way to go. "Anyone got a can opener up there?"

Yup-- that was a great one. I remember also that Kevin Costner played the pilot of the B-17. The gear extended-- but one of the tires was shot away......I won't reveal more in case someone happens across it and wants to watch it. One of the local video stores here had some of them available for rent....

Speaking of B-58'S - Who can forget "FAILSAFE"!? I think it was about 1964 when I saw that movie as a kid. In fact, I'm gonna order it right now.

Ok I think these three were missed:

Air America, hiding in the crashed C-123 was cool.
Flight of the Phoenix, I am a fan of Jimmy Stewart.
The Great Waldo Pepper, good cinematography of flying planes.

OK, I'll admit I didn't have the time to read through all five pages of this post, but did anyone mention the 1-year TV series called "Supercarrier"? It was on network TV around 1988 or 89. Excellent footage of a modern day aircraft carrier. The story lines were weak, the characters were unbelievably cheesy: ref. the small-town seaman on his first cruise, the salty masterchief, the cocky f-14 pilot with his ex-ANZAC RIO named "Anzac", and the straight-as-an-arrow F-18 pilot played by Ken Olin of soap-opera fame (don't ask me which one). I remember watching Letterman b/c I saw Ken Olin was going to be on the show, only to find out he was talking only of his soap opera career. How disappointing. But hey, there's nothing like watching a TV show based on a nuclear carrier.
