Me - 410 completed.
Posted by grenadierII on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 1:43 PM

Though I don't spend as much time here as I once did, I'm still producing albiet at a much slower rate. Just finished up the Pro Modeler 1/48th 410. Wonderful kit with the exception of the problematic canopy construction. Boy did I screw it up!! Ended up having to strip some paint off of the airframe, and in the process I managed to cloud the canopy (stripper seeped under the mask). With the exception of the not so stellar canopy, I'm still rather pleased. I don't do alot of WWII kits so let me know some pointers...Thanks!

grenadier: Not just astounding....inspiring as I look to begin an He111. Which paints did you use. The scheme came out wonderful. You certainly turned that kit into a winner.

The -410 looks good! I have to getr me one of those soon!

By the way, if you use brake fluid, it strips the paint off quickly and easily, and doesn't cloud the canopy.

Current Builds: If I were to list everything I have in progress, it'd take way too long! Some notable inclusions:

Hasegawa 1:48 KI-84

Tamiya 1:48 P-51D (in Iwo Jima long-range escort markings)

4 (yes, four) Tamiya 1:48 F4U-1s (1x -1D, 1x -1A, and 2x -1s)

Give YOU some pointers? Gotta say grenadierII- I need to be asking you for pointers.

Anyone else notice the leading edge of the wing- the way the camo paint is "wavy"? Fantastic!

The whole thing looks incredible. The office looks nice, panel lines, paint.

Honestly- you NEED to do MORE WWII aircraft- fantastic work!

Beautiful!  Didn't notice any cloudiness on the clear parts.  Interior looks especially nice.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

This was really a nice kit with very little filling or sanding required. If you get a chance grab one if you come across it. I just started the Pro Modeler 1/48th Do-217, a relativley hassle free build as well thus far.

I used MM arcrylics for the 410. I picked up the MM Luftwaffe enamel set with hopes of using it but I can't seem to get my ratios right with the enamels using my Badger LG-100 at low PSI.

I'll have to remember the brake fluid for future corrections, thanks!

Very nice build Ray.  Great work on the camo.  The damage to the canopy isn't evident in the pics.

Great job, I echo everyone else. Hard to believe you don't do many WW II birds.

I don't know man, I think you're beating yourself up a bit too much. If you hadn't said anything about the canopy, I wouldn't have noticed - honestly. Very nice work. Something for me to use as a benchmark when I build mine.

Thanks again guys. I'm glad the camo look's good. I messed up the mottleing twice and thats why I had to strip some paint off and start again. Very thin paint with a very low PSI did the trick finally!

Excellent work.

Mine is sitting as I can't figure out how to attatch the canopy with the multi-piece fixed halves and make it look reasonable. How did you do it? You can PM me if you don't want to give up the secret.(then I'll post it!Big Smile [:D])

Thanks

Wow, thanks for the kind words!

Drew - just dry fit the canopy over and over. You're gonna have too because the angle of the canopy length does not match that of the airframe - some sanding and filling will be required especially towards the right rear of the canopy. Fortunatley, the rest of the kit goes together very well.

This is great looking ME-410, you just have to love "not so famous" airplanes I have a question about antenna. How did you do this?

Gumiflex - I used clear water based glue (the type used for clear parts). Just use a toothpick dipped in some white - clear glue and touch it where you want the conductors (?) to be. Once it has dried you may have to add an additional layer until you are satisfied with the shape and size. Then I painted mine with flat white. I probably should have used a grey instead though.  It's a trick I swiped form this forum a couple of years ago. Hope it works for you!
