RCAF Canso finished pics

So here are some pics of my contribution to the Battle of the Atlantic GB, two months late! This is the highly recommended 1:72 Academy kit. It took me 7 months to complete, I started April 1. I also had a son born in May so thats where most of my time went but I knew I'd eventually get it done so here it is.

She is the Mary K, a Canso (Canadian version of the PBY-5a Catalina) of RCAF 162 based out of Iceland. She was lost on June 24, 1944 while attacking uboat 1225. The uboat was sunk but not before it had done enough damage to force the Canso down. The Canso sank quickly and it's crew got into several dingies. Unfortunately only one dingy worked and that meant several people had to be in the water. The pilot, Fl/Lt. David Hornell gave up his spot in the dingy to the worst of the crew, After 20+ hours in the water the crew was finally picked up but unfortunately Fl/Lt Hornell did not survive the exposure to the North Atlantic. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross. He was only 1 of 4 Canadian Airmen to recieve this distinction (All were posthumous). Enjoy. As usual all comments welcome

Nice looking build Jay ! I like the weathering on the white. White is one of those things that are either done and done well or no done at all. You did it very well indeed!

Jay,

Very nice job, I especially like the Canadian tribute, rather than the usual PBY livery. Thanks for the history lesson as well, a tip of my hat to those brave aviators. We Yanks tend to forget the contributions of our neighjbors to the north! Thanks for sharing a beautiful build!

I second the "good job!" on the white paint and the weathering of it. White paint scares me ... and is one of the reasons I've hesitated about plunging into a USCG Greenland Patrol cutter project. But looking at your build has rekindled my resolve.

Joe and mfsob, the white scared me too but I had just completed a yellow trainer so I had some experience with a hard to paint colour. Unfortunately I tried to do this with one paint layer and got the area between the blisters too thick and lost some engraved detail.

mykroft, I only added some scratch detail to the blister guns and mounts as well as adding foil seat belts to the cockpit, though you can't see the belts very well.
