I've been building models most of my life, and I've built probably all levels of quality at one time or another.  I did take some time away from the hobby during high school and college, but once I got my life on track, I re-discovered the hobby and found that kit quality had improved dramatically from when I left in the early '80s.

I've done some real fine Tamiya, Hasegawa and Accurate Miniatures kits, but for me my favorite comes down to childhood memories - Monogram kits from the '70s.  I've re-built most of them since rejoining the hobby, and my favorite would be the 1/48 P-40B and the 1/48 B-17G.  There was always a decent level of detail in these kits, and I always loved the movable features that most of these kits had.  Loved the folding wings of the US Navy fighters and the retractable undercarriage that most of the se kits had.

I built an Accurate Miniatures P-51 kit around 1995. At that time, it was the highest quality aircraft model I had ever built and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

But one kit that will always have a spot in my heart is the old Monogram TBF Avenger. I built it as a kid and loved the folding wings, retractable landing gear and torpedo dropping action. I know it is more of a toy than a model by today's standards, but I have fond memories of that one.

The Monogram 1/48 F-4J Mig Killer " Showtime 100", is my all time favorite kit! I never tire of building it. While it is a challenge to build and will certainly test a modelers skills it still ranks as No.1 with me.

Favourite Kit of all time? Only one contender Mongram 1/48 TBD-1 Devastator, closely followed by ESCI 1/48 Henschel HS-123. I have a real soft spot for Monogram 1/48's during the 70's/80's they set the standard for detail.

The Hasegawa/ Revell reboxed 1/32nd scale ME109's & FW190's get my vote. Thought that they are very good in all areas.

My most enjoyable build in the last couple of years was the Accurate Minatures P-51A. Good detail great fix nice panel lines and she went together without a hitch. I have not had that happen in a while mostly because I tend to build limited run kits alot like Classic Airframes and MPM. They are also nice but do take alot more work to asemble. I enjoyed the Mustang build so much I went a little overboard on the weathering! I guess I did not want it to end.

Mine would be a tie between the 1/48 Tamiya Spitfire and the Corsair.

Well, its an oldie, and I wish another company would release it with upgrades, but I my favorite has to be the 1/48 scale Tamiya Lancaster B III. Not a perfect kit, but very good and one of the only big lancaster kits out there..

I cannot dissagree with Rick. Those 2 kits are on the top. I would only add that the AM SBD kits are also excellent.

For me, it would be a tie between the Tamiya P-47D T'bolts & the Accurate Miniatures TBF/M Avengers.  Both are excellent examples of state of the art kits.

This may start a flame war, but I'm curious. From *your* point of view, what's the best kit you've ever picked up and assembled? I'm asking from the point of view of kit quality itself (fit, accuracy, detail, options etc) not the finished product that you yourself have accomplished. I've seen people on here create museum quality beauties from some flat out horrible kits and i'm not that kind of modeler :) The "sweet spot" for me is larger scale 1/48 (1/32 is ideal) and above with a *very* good fit (Tamiya takes me to my happy place), and good accurate details. I'm currently building a Tamiya 1/48 F-4U and it falls together so easily it makes me giddy. On the other hand i'm also building the infamous Dragon 1/32 P-51. Nice overall fit (so far) but some glaring deficiencies in detail. Anyway, would love to hear you sound off. And photos would be great! Maybe this will help some of us pick our next project :)
