Progress 1/48 scale dragon me262 mistel
Posted by phoenix7187 on Sunday, March 9, 2008 10:16 PM

I have started this

I've had this laying around for about 2 years now and decided it's about time to see how much damage I can to it. So far i've completed the cockpit tub for the piloted 262 and the main shell for the unmaned mistel part which is basically just 2 fuslage halves and wings attached. My idea it to do the mistel part in a bare metal finish new and completely unweathered. But do the upper or manned 262 like it's a used up airframe and heavly weathered. I think the contrast should go along with the kit well.

Mistel shell glued and most of the seam gone. Still needs a little work.

I build pretty slow and this kits a little bit of a bear. I'll post more when I can.

Very nice work on the front office. Did the PE come with the kit or is it aftermarket?. I have a few Mistrels by Dragon but in 1/72, wish I had some 1/48. How is the build going so far. Keep us posted on your progress.

Phoenix,

Outstanding work thus far!  I really like your contrasting idea, with a new airframe together with a really old, worn one.  Look forward to seeing how it comes together! Thumbs Up [tup]

Your cockpit is superb.  If the rest is as good, you will have a truly outstanding model.

Thanks guys, I wish I could take credit for the IP but all I did was glue it together and paste it on. Those PE IP's do look great. The panels on either side of the seats is the kit parts. They were better than the PE. Betwen the detail of the dragon kit and the PE set I didn't add any scratchbuilt items to this cockpit.

The kit did come with a small PE set, But I have yet to use it. I used a eduard me262B-1a nachtjager set because it was in color and came with alot of exterior and wheel well items.

The fit problem I'm having is with the fuselage halves. There was no way to fit them without leaving a step. dragon plastic is soft and tends to scratch and pit when sanded or worked to hard. The gear doors which are closed on the mistel part fit very bad.ON the positive side the wing roots on this kit fix like a tamiya. A light sanding was all it took to clean it up.

Wing nuts mini mistel (not to be confused with mini me) actually got the gears turning. it has been on my short list since I finish my 1/32 fw190A-7.  That and I have this now as well.

and now that I'm stocked up on sand paper and files I have also started this beast to top it off.

Thanks again guys.

You should also try the 1/72 scale HE-162 Mistle5 and the 1/48 scale HE-162 Mistel as well those are interesting subjects using the Salamander as the mothership platform.

Oh and an interesting thing about both 1/48 Mistel sets is that you actually have enough parts to partially build another piloted ME-262 though without the PE or the wing or guns or canopy but just enough to be able to use it for another project if you wish. Hmmm Wingnut you should get both kits so you can make a piloted Zwilling ME-262.

I have this same kit but without instructions, do you still have yours? I'll gladly pay, even for copies.

Thanks,

Bill
