Adolf Galland's Me 109 E-3 Aug 1940
Posted by soulcrusher on Thursday, May 15, 2008 9:37 PM

I got this kit in a trade from a freind who had two of them in his stash. He had started his so we decided to do a mini group build. It is the Tamiya 1/48 Bf 109 E3. This kit is almost flawless when it comes to fit and buildability. Minimal filler was used on the bottom wing to fuselage to fix a slight mismatch in height. I have not enjoyed building a kit this much in a while. It is OOB and I completed it in about three weeks. Hope you like it!

Although I feel that Galland is over-rated as a fighter pilot, I certainly dig your build...very impressive 109...

Adolf Galland has to be my all time favorite Ace. Pity he was on the wrong side but he also did quite a lot of good after the war. Excellent build and incredible painting and decaling. I can almost see the cigar smoke as the plane roars down the field. Pretty cool is an understatement! I am working on a Halifax and am not enjoying it nearly as much. Great work!

Oustanding work there SC!  I gotta agree- the Tamiya kit is one of my all-time favorites to build.  Great detail and fit, just a little work needed at the trailing edge of the wing.  I built mine in the same markings, though I don't thnik mine turned out nearly as nice as yours did.  Good thing I get to build another for the upcoming BoB GB! Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks for sharing, beautiful model! Bow [bow]

Very nice build SC. Bit too clean for me, i like filth, scratches, exhaust muck and wear and tear. Thats not knocking the build though fella. Wish i could build one as nice. Top marx.

Not a bad idea. Sure beats trying to flick the ashes out the window at 10,000 feet. Tongue [:P]

Please elaborate.

Very clean build. Weren't the noses painted yellow at this time or am I way off. (sorry, I'm a treadhead at heart).

Nice clean build soulcrusher, I like the radio antenna. I had this kit for years and still have yet to build it.

Thank you to everyone for the praise. The fit overall is awesome but what impressed me the most was the way the parts break down. it goes together alot like the real thing  makeing construction very easy and almost eliminating the need for filler or sanding.

Luftwolleri i intented to do some weathering when I started this kit but the paint job just looked so pretty when it was done I decided to build her like Galland had just received her from the supply depot.

Tigerman contrary to popular belief not all Me 109 from the BoB era had yellow noses. In my color references there are only a handfull of BoB 109's with yellow noses. On the other hand me 109 on the eastern front used yellow as a ground identification aid. Usally the lower cowl wing tips and ruddder. it seems this theater is where the majority of these all yellow nosed 109 started to appear in great numbers and many non standard camo jobs as well.

phoenix you should dig her out of the stash and build it. I guarentee it will be an enjoyable build. Thanks for noticing the antenna. I though it would give me a hard time for sure but I am pleased with the results.

Coming off the Trumpy P-38 build, this is probably the gem of all gems for you! I know the feeling! The build looks great, SC. I like the smooth finish.
