Invasion stripes- ETO and PTO ?
Posted by Wirraway on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 6:52 PM

I was just having a look at the decal sheet for the old  Revell Jug in 1/32.   Do the "recognition stripes" have the same role as "invasion stripes" ?  ie; to prevent in friendly fire incidents as far as IFF goes ?  Were these introduced at the same time as "invasion stripes" ?

No, they were not the same. They were group ID stripes not theaterwide   friend or foe ID marks. some US fighter groups began wearing them from around the time of the Phillipines campaign on until VJ Day. They have been seen on P-51s and P-47s, but not nearly all aircraft as was the case with ETO Invasion Stripes.
