1/28th Revell Fokker Dr.1 progress
Posted by T_Terrific on Thursday, July 17, 2008 10:19 AM

Hi guys, after being interrupted by car repairs, having to pay bills, cook, eat, etc., here is my progress so far:

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Basic Revell-still a great classic, origionally issued in 1957, when I first bought it from the Woolworth store near my house and built it OOB, unpainted.

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Beginning of engine and figure work

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Engine front, with my eyeglasses added to prove it is not an actual full-size unit Whistling [:-^]

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Engine rear-Tamiya's acrylic copper paint helped a lot with this one.

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Pilot hiding from angry crew member.

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Angry crew member looking around my hobby area for the pilot.

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Crew member seeing if the pilot is behind the paint bottle.

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Cockpit floor

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Stuff added to floor

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Finished cockpit floor assembly.

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Top view of finished floor-I found it easier to paint the compass then to decal it.

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Cockpit interior-left side-I figured this to be a fire extinguisher, so I painted it copper.

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Cockpit interior, right side, with controls details.

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Finished fuselage with installed interior.

Revell Fokker Dr 1" border="0" />

Finished fuselage bottom, with Squadron Green Putty to level it's surface and fine threads CNA glued in place to restore ribbing.

Nopw it's on to the wings and such!

There's a trip down memory lane! There was a Spad and a Camel too.

Is that an old kit, or is it out again?

It's in the current Revell Germany catalogue, as is the 1/28 Spad XIII. The Sopwith Camel is also available with the Fokker Triplane, as part of a gift set. With precision poly and three full-size enamel tinlets (plus a poster!), good value at £30, if you like the kits themselves.

Talking of the Triplane itself, those figures really show the kit's age, don't they?!

Cheers,

Chris.

I think it's an air pump to pressurize the fuel system...  I'm working the same bird, as Willie von Klugermann's Dr1 from the movie,The Blue Max.  I'm using the same artistic license the producers did, finishing the Dr1 in lozenge camouflage, even though it's incorrect for the Tripe.  It WAS going to be in a diorama, but I think I bit off more than I could chew with the idea I had. So, it's gonna remain a static display bird for now.

Also, I noticed that you have the stick mounted about 90 degrees out... The large grip should be on the right-hand side of the stick, the other handle is a throttle handle.

Yes indeed, but so do Airfix 1/24 and Hasegawa 1/32 pilot figures well into the 1970s. Indeed - I've just checked - the pilot figures in the late-1990s-vintage Tamiya 1/32 Zero have separate backs. It's a good way of avoiding sink marks!

Cheers,

Chris.

One of the most fun kits to put together of all time!  Have to love the metrosexual pilot, and the goofy attendant.  Still, it makes a convincing Triplane. Neat work !

Tom, looks like you're making great progress.

I keep looking at that kit and wondering if it was worth a go.

I'm likin' this one, Tom! Looks like a lot of work, but I know it's going to be a stunner when it's finished. Keep us posted! Thumbs Up [tup]
