Mach71>  That's a great view!  Looks like nice weather, so you're lucky.  Big Smile

As stated, I took some more shots of the Vostok tonight using my smartphone.  I must admit, the rocket does seem like it's leaning when the phone is turned vertically.  However, when I turn it back horizontal, the lean disappears.  I think it's a trick of the camera, though what causes it I cannot say.

Here's the best images I took tonight.

Here's a couple of earlier shot of the unfinished model for comparison.

Your opinions are welcome.

Gary: Maybe my eyes are crooked, looks fine in these photos. Very nice work! I need a Soviet booster in my collection...

Mach71: Thanks again, those are great photos.

Gamera>  I don't think your eyes are crooked!  I think there is some lense distortion, as you can tell by comparing the last two photos.  The model does seem to "bend" as it gets closer to the top of the image.  A trick of the camera, I believe.  As I've seen it in both the smartphone and my Canon SX160/S, I think it's a common effect.  All it means is that I'm not a very good photographer!  Sad

Since I didn't have a Soviet Space poster large enough, I just used some photo manipulation to make a background.  Big Smile

They were sure proud of themselves.

Gamera>  Thanks for making me laugh this morning.  I had forgotten about that Twilight Zone episode.  Too bad you're not a Martian with the third arm.  Might come in more "handy" for modeling!  Big Smile

If I'm not mistaken, the Venusion had the extra hands.

I was thinking the Venusian had the third eye and the Martian had three hands.

Of course it's been a long time since I saw the episode so I could be mistaken.

You're right. I just looked it up. Wink

Considering both played aliens in this episode it struck me as funny that Hoyt would play the first doctor, Dr. 'Bones' Boyce' on Star Trek.

And Phillips would play a USAF office, Colonel Bourne, in the 'Sighting 4023: The I-Man Incident' of Project U.F.O. I wish he'd take his hat off at the end of episode and open his third eye 'We're already here, suckas!!!'

Btw: The Project U.F.O. series is on YouTube if you ever have the hankering to watch it.

Gary that is a great background for the Vostok, It fits the model perfectly.

I'm back home, only a little sunburned, and I found just a bit of time at my bench.

I got the wheels on, not without issues. The top/front A frames don't have clearence.

One came lose and one came off. Thats fixed. The chassis is now a rolling chassis!

Small steps.

The firewall and cockpit are just placed on the chassis, they will get glued to the body once I gloss coat it. Maybe tomorrow.

I started on the tail lights, not a big project.

Thats it for now.

Mach, your Vett looks sweet! Darn about the chassis issue but whatever makes it work. I have the same problem with my Jeep. Speaking of, I am almost done with it. I will post an update within the next few days.

Mach71> Welcome back!  The Vette is looking great, despite your problems.  Too bad you don't have a 1/25th scale Apollo astronaut to go with it.  Big Smile

Bakster>  Hope to see the jeep soon.  Glad to hear she's almost done!

Gamera>  Heh!  I don't think I've watched a UFO series since "UFO" by Gerry Anderson!

You know, I don't remember the 1980s being anything like that...  Must be the aliens!  Stick out tongue

Thanks.

It's an almost 50 year old kit and it's modeling.

Bakster I'm looking forward to seeing the progress on your jeep!

Gary, UFO is one of my favorite shows! I love the "look" of it. One day I'll build my SHADO Interceptor kit.

Gary: Funny, I've heard so much about the Gerry Anderson shows but I still haven't watched any of them!

BTW: Between posting photos of candy and three-eyed Venusians I actually DID get more work done on Buzz Lightlight. There are a few rough areas on the legs but with the deadline coming up and diminished returns from doing the same areas over and over I think it's about time to stick a fork in this one. So I attached the life support pack and put the hoses on last night. Hopefully I'll get a base coat down on the whole thing this weekend and maybe some highlights and shading.

Gamera>  "UFO" was one of those shows best viewed at the age of 13-15.  It's kinda campy in a "British" way.  It does have a premise that Star Trek used on occasion:  the aliens are using humans as organ donors (as unlikely as that seems in reality).  Good fun!

The astronaut figure looks great!  I only see a slight seam on the left arm.  Nothing some paint can't fix!  Smile

UPDATE: My third project for the AMT Man In Space boosters is coming along.  I need to do some last detailing on the capsules, then I can print out some decals for application.  I think I can finish them up by the 20th.  I hope!  The hardest part is figuring out how to mount them.

Thanks Gary, I'll check the left arm when I get home. Hopefully I can get it fixed without too much more work.

Good luck with the booster decals. Sounds cool!

Plus I really need to get my hands on UFO sometime, I'd like to at least give it a whirl.

Buzz looks great Gamera! I never built that kit as a kid, I hope Revell re releases it again.

UFO is a must see if you like science fiction. Purple haired women in silver catsuits, Neru jackets, Moonbase, Nuclear cars, It's what the '80s should have been!

Mach71>  Revell has released the astronaut figure again, but where you could buy it I could not tell you.

https://www.revell.de/en/products/modelmaking/space-scifi/50th-anniversary-moon-landing/

Oh, and I have the DVD box set of "UFO".  Couldn't pass it up!  Big Smile

Here's a question I've been pondering.  The black circle I made for the Vostok to sit on, I've been considering making a "flame" pattern as if you were looking down as the rocket were launching from its pad.  I'm not sure if I have the artistic talent to create a believable representation, so I'm on the lookout for images of the rockets taking off with a view looking down.  Might be an impossible task, but I'll explore the possibility.  Smile

Thanks guys!

I wish I could help you Mach71, but I got the figure in a Christmas gift exchange and the guy who donated it had it for years...

I dunno Gary, you could print off some copies and see if anything looks good to you.

I set the Vette up to clear coat. and I noticed the drivers side door had 2 small lines of worn away paint.

Oh well, I masked it and put a light gold coat.

Waiting for it to dry now.

Ok, I am shouting out for finishing this side project with a loud Hallelujah! When I am done with the entire dio--I'll shout out with two loud Hallelujahs, and I'll celebrate with a grilled steak and grog. Tonight, just a frozen dinner.

A few things to note:

1. As you already know there are some fit issues. I chopped the cylinder head, part of the frame, I lanced part the transmission housing, and even the trailer hitch interfered with the spare tire. It is what it is.

2. The decals didn't go down well; you will notice silvering. I suspect the decades old kit took its toll on them. A better modeler might have been able to do better.

3. The "compressor" is not glued to the trailer yet. I will be routing the wires via the hose through the compressor assembly and into the base. You will notice a slight gap between the two; the two will get glued later.
All in all, not a bad "little" kit.

4. (Updated) I forgot to mention I left the radio antenna off until final assembly.

I banged my head against this side project pretty hard--so bear with me as I celebrate its completion by posting a bunch of images:

What's next? I'll be moving towards mounting these and the X-1 to the base, then wire the battery, paint the hose, and finally, work on the flames. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

End of update.

The jeep looks excellent Bakster.

Gam. You should build the monolith from 2001 for him to touch. LOL
