Ok, here's the Warning Order (WARNORD) for the build... Remember, we start on 1 DEC 08.

We got less than 30 days until the start.  If you haven't already, time to start going through the VHS, DVDs, and anything else ya need for research..

How about fictitious war movies? Movies on the order of "Red Dawn", "By Dawns Early Light", or other WWIII/fictitious type scenarios?

Let's keep it confined to historical wars and conflicts, Stik... If we push out to fictional wars, like WW III, we cross into another genre...    Movies like Red Dawn and such are really not unique in their overall story, there's plenty of Partisan/Guerilla movies that took place in historical wars...

Picked up and watched "1941" last week. Somebody was a "Sahara" fan........

While I think this GB will be a blast and I will be following it, I'm going to have to bow out due to too much going on, both in modelling and other, although a dio of an M3 going through a paint factory would be neat.

Ahh, bummer... On the other hand, you got a whole year to do it in, Pard... Why don't I keep you on the roster a bit longer anyway?  Something may change in 6 months...

.....sound of twisting arm.......OK. Gives me an excuse to watch the movie. It'll be an M3 Lee somewhere, somehow, from "1941". BTW, anyone gotten a good look at that exact movie tank lately? Interesting.....

I know what I'm doing (although the wallet would rather me do something else).  The "just shoot me scene" from Dances with Wolves (the scene where Costner mounts up and rides arms spread in front of the Confederate line).  Haven't done a figure since high school, this ought to be interesting.

I think I will either do a scene from 1941 involving a P-40 or a scene from Pearl Harbor with a Doolittle Raider B-25. From 1941, either the "Let me hear your guns" scene with the crazy colonel, the flying scene with the map, or the part when Belushi crashes and then bails out on the ground. From Pearl Harbor, either the first training take-off (where everyone is on the line) with Doolittle or the carrier take-off.

Hi Raider83,

"Speaking of Raiders of the Lost Ark, I rewatched it the other day, and is that twin-engined tailless German plane real? I doubt it, but I don't know.  Looks cool though"

The wing was designed by Ron Cobb and built as a standing prop. His original design was much bigger, four-engined, an absolute beast! They reduced it to a twin probably for reasons of simple practicality. He also designed a very radical-looking German get fighter, the He-155 if I'm remembering correctly. The technology was projected about eight years too early, but that's Hollywood!

This is a fascinating build, I'll be following it with interest!

Cheers,

Mike/TB379

Hans,

I'm not much at all for dioramas, but I'd love to build the "RAF Aircraft" from Dive Bomber.  Its a heavily-Hollywooded Ryan ST.

Cheers,
Alex

Didnt "Yellow Wings Decals" do a sheet with all the USN aircraft shown in that movie?

Yep, and it is impressive.  Since its USN aircraft only, it doesn't have the 'RAF Aircraft' on it, though.

I haven't found a pic of the aircraft yet, but if you watch the movie (and its a good one), you'll see it.

Cheers,
Alex

I don't know if I ever get one done.. Have no plans. But as said, count me in! I will try to figure something out...

So is it a movie that has to be made by a Hollywood company, or just any movie that's listed on imdb?

And does it have to be a diorama?

IMDB... "Hollywood" is just an Americanism for the movie business.  As long as the war movie is listed there, it's a GO...

And does it have to be a diorama?

Yes... It's pretty hard to recreate a scene from a war movie  without scenery, sets, props,  and "actors", wouldn't ya say?Wink [;)]

Still in?

I've decided I'm building the opening sene from Battle Of The Bulge where the plane is chasing the Klubwagen (?). I think Bronco makes that plane or something realy close in 1/35 that could be modified.

Hans, you never got back to me about my proposed build, and I'm not on the roster.  Am I go?

Hi all,

I've been reading through the posts and this is a really interesting topic. I see no one has yet suggested the classic street scene -- Kelly, Big Joe and Oddball doing the gunfighter walk toward the Tiger outside the bank, from the end of Kelly's Heroes. I've been nursing the dream to build that one for years now. I'm tempted but I don't think I'm suicidal enough to take on a diorama, especially as to do the material justice it would need to be at least 12" x 24" and there's absolutely no place to store/display a project that large at present... But dang! I'm tempted all the same...

Or Tamiya's PBR with a modified crew in a scene from Apocalypse Now, a waterline diorama with foliage and sampans...

Or the collapsing bridge from Force 10 From Navarone, maybe a tank toppling from an up-ending slab of road...

Or General Patton directing traffic at a muddy crossroads, from Patton...

No, I'm insane! Dead [xx(]

Thunderbolt, I measured out a piece for ya and got it to a pretty managable 18 X 6 & 1/2 inches...  Unless you plan on modeling the square and some of the buildings, it'd work pretty good, IMHO...  There's still enough space between the Tiger's gun and our heroes... Especially if you model it during the part where they've walked up and are watching the German Sergeant dismount...

I'd like to use one of these designs as a basis for the badge... I made one, not very well, though... I'm not good enough at Photoshop yet to stack objects, so someone help me out... Use one of these, and show me what ya got..

I like the last one best, as far as shape and artwork.. But don't let that stop you..
