Hi all, Ive just spent the best part of this morning going through the posts ive not read (A lot BTW) and this has to have the finest array of finished models of any GB ive been a part of.

Mike, your final build is superb. Those hasa decals can be sods with silvering but dont worry. Run a new scalpel blade lightly through the silvering and blob ithe area with plenty of Micro sol and theyll soon dissapear. Dont fret you may need 2 or three applications. Stunning build that aside.

Sign me up for the next one Frank. Ive not built half as many 'F's' or 'G's' as id like and theres always room on the shelf for more.

Aaron and I do have a big 109K that we were going to throw zillions of £££$$$$ worth of resin at and build concurrently. Would we be able to build them here as well...as honary 109 ers?

Thanks Lufty! Yep, I can take another crack at those decals with the blade and solvent, but I'd sure be in the market for a set of low-tack open cross stencils... I'm thinking of getting some artists' frisket material and making some -- Revell packed A4 sheets of the stuff, I saw some last year but missed picking them up. Then there'll be no clear film to silver at all!

I have bids on three more 109s at evilBay right now, plus more decals, so I'll be all set for Round 2. Hey, I hope we have at least one of these Reich Defender builds every year!

Mike, the key to taming Hase & Tamiya decals is Gunze's MrMark Softener & Setter.

You have to go fairly lightly with the Setter, but it realy does a great job.

Hi Karl,

Gunze products are not readily available in this country -- Aqueous Hobby Color is available and that's about it. Mr. Surfacer? Forget it... I wouldn't be surprised if their decal chemistry wasn't easily obtainable here. I'm using the Microscale chemistry and have had generally good results. The decals in the Tamiya E-3 I built for last year's BoB GB were the 'InvisaClear' type (by Cartograf?) and went on an absolute dream, though depicting a 1940 aircraft they were of course all closed crosses, so the big clear areas weren't an issue. The film around the wing walks silvered up some, though.

The spinner spiral decal was a major challenge, not just for the obvious reasons but because in the wetting process it tried to curl back on itself while still on the backing paper. It took some fancy work with a brush and MicroSet to get it to lie down again, before transfering it in more than one piece to the cone.

I am a rookie I only have two mid-war 109's in the stash.

Hasegawa F-4/R1 or a G-2.  I am leaning towards the Fritz

Thanks, TJ -- I had fun and am very pleased to have been part of such a skillful team turnout out this colourful squadron. I always considered myself a 109 novice but I seem to have learned a lot in the last year. I won a G-6 on eBay this morning and have a G-10 finishing tomorrow, which will further round out the stash, and will be collecting plenty more: it becomes a mild obsession after a while...

Well the end date has come and gone and my build still isn't done. Sorry for the delay in even a post from me. My summer was very busy and I had very little time to sit down and work on the 109. As of now though, it is painted and decaled. Just need to weather it. So Frank, if you see this and  don't mind, I would still like to post the finished product in here even though it is well after the end date. I should be done soon hopefully. Sorry again for the delay.

Alright, finally me 1/32 Hasegawa K-4 is finished. All in all a very nice build (even if it was drawn out) and I am very happy with the results. Mostly OOB except for some Eduard belts and EagleCal decals for "Black 15" of IV./JG-53 stationed in Schleissheim, Germany. Questions and comments are welcome.

Well, after a long spell of 'lack of modeling motivation'  I'm calling it complete on my Revell 1/49 bf109g-10.  Yeah, this is the cheap kit, less than $10.00 new when I purchased it a couple of years ago.  Started out as a night fighter....I was happy with the paint & weathering, but the more I looked at the kit decals, the less I liked it.  Decided to refinish it using Hasegawa decals.  Had problems with the reich defense band & spinner decals, but it all worked out.

Here's a few pics of the before & after:

Overall, its a fun kit and would benefit from more time & skill on my part. 

I know I'm missing some detail painting-red on the trim tabs, etc, but stick a fork in this one-it's done!

Now to break out the FW-109d and play catch up!
