Lasse,

sure thing, "Polititroppene" had their military training in the area, Dalarna, where my grandfather came from.
My Grand-Grand Mother could tell stories about the Norwegian troopers who where constantly undersupplied and had a lot off support from the locals.

About the amunition train exploding in 1941, the full investigation will be public in 2011.
Malcolm Munthe, the SOE head off the Brittish legation in Stockholm was declared "Persona Non Grata"  the day after the explosion!

My stash just arrived from Australia, tomorrow I will unpack and get moving.

Allright, done a few changes here now.

Roster is now up, and deadline set to December 15th.

Please read trough the roster and see if I got your information correct!

Svenne: That's very cool to hear! There was for sure a lot of strange things happening to Sweden. I have myself seen several of their "border outposts", guarding the Norwegian border. One specific I saw was a bunkersystem on a hilltop, with bunkers for anti-tank guns. The Swedish also constructed many, many, many miles of anti-tank barriers after 1940. This was quite simply because they feared a German invasion.

My grandfather served in Sweden too, after escaping from Norway. He was a part of the so called "Police troops". Hope you know of them!

Hi Lasse,

I would like to join with a Pz.Kpfw.II.
My Grandfather did serve on the Swedish side of the border to Norway 1941 - 1944.
The group exchanged fire with German boarder patrol on occasion helping people over to the Swedish side.
He was from Avesta where a German Ammunition Train blew up in 1941.
One theory is that the explosion went of to early and that it was a British SOE operation aiming at disrupting the train-traffic of German soldiers and supply through Sweden to the North of Norway and Finland, the so called "Permittenttrafiken".

Svenne

Hi all!

I'm very sorry for me absence. Things have been very hectic for me recently the weeks before and the weeks after the school ended for the summer.. But I did get the best grade on oral english exam!! Yes

It's been so hectic I have not touched my workbench for over a month now, until yesterday.. I have been ashamed, but it feels good now!

I'll get the roster up shortly now.. Glad to have everyone aboard! And it's just to start building as soon as possible! Lots of Panzer one and twos...!

Hey Krusty0351! Where in Norway were you stationed? Probably around Kirkenes as almost everyone else? Clown
Sorry to hear about the weather.. Here in this part of Noway we've had no luck either. Constant clouds, little sun and a temperature of max. 65F!!!

Cheers!

Sounds great! I'll be building the Dragon Panzer 1 Ausf. A modified version with interior! I'll get on it as soon as I can get my StuG finished up (link below). This shall be an awesome GB! But It will take me a little while to get to it, unfortunately. I'll be starting it a monthe from now. I have a two-week Hawaii trip, and my StuG to finish up first. But I can't wait!

That's OK!  I am still interested... count me in since the deadline has been extended. Big Smile  I will build Tristar Panzer I Ausf. A that I bought for only $20 at AMPS Show in Auburn, IN last month.  While I was looking inside the box, I found a set of decals for the tank that was involved in the Battle of Norway... perfect timing!  I will probably add some PE stuff such as better machine gun barrels.

Thanks!

Alright, alright.. We're off to a bad start here - but hey, the Germans were off to a bad start too, right??

I'll update the roster and all that as quickly as possible, and the start started a month ago.. Let's see some kits built!!

Due to the bad start, I'll just extend the timeline to 15th November 2010..   Hope that's OK for everyone!! Smile

Andrew, about your question regarding big-panzers, they were used with Norwegians troops in SS, yes, but.. None in Norway, sadly. There was only three Panzer IV anyways.. But there's quite a few stuff you can build.. Looking forward to see what you'll build!!

Cheers everyone - let's get this rolling!

Huxy, I'd like to join if I may with armor as I have none in my work bench at the moment, but the only two I have in my stash are a early production Tiger 1 and a Panther G which I cant find mention of serving IN Norway (I know they would of served in SS Panzer division Wiking but they they didnt fight IN Norway LOL). If you can counter that information that would be great otherwise I'll pick up something else next week.

I can definitely get my Panzer 1 w/ interior done if you bump the time frame out to six months..... 4 months might be a bit tight!

YUP! Hyxy, the museum you recommended was already on my list for me to visit. LOL I learned somewhere that they do have Panzer III in their displayment.  Boy, my wife is not going to like the idea of shopping for more kits.  I will definitely look into this.  You are BEST!

Looking forward to hear from you if you can find more information for me to visit.  Thank you buddy!  You should give it a shot doing the host family thing.  We plan to do it again in few years...

Museum in Denmark? No.. WAIT! Oh..  In Copenhagen, you got a museum called "Tøyhus museet". It has tons of firearms and weapons from the medieval up till today.

Been there two times myself, but many years since last time now.

http://www.thm.dk/info/eng.htm

That's their website, in English. You cna most probably find something online too!

Else beside that, I am not sure. I'll ask around! But there's always bunkers on the coast from the Atlantic Wall. Watch this space for more info!

Also, there is this store in the town square you must check out (If it's still there??). It is in the cellar in one of the buildings at the city square. They sell a hundred kits and lots of WWII militaria!

Being a host family sure sounds exiting, and is something I always want to be! Smile

Deadline extended till 30th September

LMAO! I wish I can visit Norway (thanks for the tip about the girls and one night stands) but going with two little boys we will make our traveling minimal.  I do really want to visit Norway and Finland one day.  Two years ago I was a host family for a deaf boy from Denmark and it was a blast experience being a host family.  Now it is our turn to visit him and his family.  He lives in Korsor which is about an hour and half away from Copenhagen if I am correct.

If you can change your GB to 6 month then you can count me in as I think I can manage to build one kit over the summer.

Oh, any chance you know if there is a good WW2 museum in Denmark? I googled... nothing!  Just a German tank in Copenhagen and I have to see it!!!

Hi Deafpanzer!

I have been thinking about six months instead myself, so you can most probably join!

Denmark and Sweden? Not Norway? What am I reading?? Super Angry

But really..  All Scandinavian gals are said to be pretty darn hot by most other countries.. Norway got the best however! Whistling

Norway is also statisically on top of the world when it comes to one-night-stands Dunce

I wish you the best of luck on your trip! Where in the countries are you going? I got family in both!

I am tempted... but I don't think if I can manage.  I am in one of GBs and it ends in June.  So by the time I am done, I will only have two months to finish my build by August if I join your GB.  If you can make it into 6 months period instead of just 4 months, then you can count me in.  I might build PZ II or III.

FYI- I will be in Denmark and Sweden visiting for two weeks in July... that's another reason I can not commit if your GB has to end in August.  Is that true ladies there are really good looking?  Hope my wife doesn't read this! LOL

Whoowee!!  I just checked the price of the Armo Neubaufahrzeuge resin kit at Jadar Models in Poland.....$115.64 USD, 86.64 Euro!!!Surprise   NOT counting shpping from Poland to California, US!!

I think the price increased since the last time I checked (last year?)  DARN!  That's a sweet looking kit, but a Dragon or Tamiya Pz II is looking much more financially attractive right now!!

Here's a further, basic read on the St. Albans: http://www.uboat.net/allies/warships/ship/4315.html

Ernest: I really want to build that Armo kit myself.. Had I only had the money! One day, I will have it however... Well, whatever you end up with, I'm looking forward for it!!

JMart: Congratulations on making your way back! Can you sign up with another kit as well so we know what you'll build ->next year<- ?   Smile Burger

I'll update the roster later on. I myself will try to build that AFV club Sd.kfz. 7 with the LeFH 18 cannon..

Cheers!

Hey huxy! I can join (again!LOL) and hopefully this time will be able to complete the kit.  I am talking about the Fujimi 1:700 Deutschland German pocket battleship, which I never started for the Norway 09 GB. As you well know, the Deutschland (later renamed Lutzow), participated in the feb 40 invasion of Norway.

cheers

70th Anniversary: Norway WWII GB 2010!
Posted by Huxy on Friday, April 9, 2010 7:07 AM

As the clock ticks towards the 9th April, the 70 year anniversary of the start of the Blitzkrieg, the invasion of Denmark and Norway, the first action the German Fallschirmjägers would see, the first defeat of the Third Reich; Operation Weserubüng started.

The invasion marched on with some degree of success. Spearheaded by the German pride, the heavy cruiser Blücher, up the Oslofjord, Blücher was loaded with all kinds of things, from planes to trucks, from musicians to horses. The <<Phoney War>> ended as she met heavy fire from Oskarsborg Festning in the early morning. Colonel Birger Eriksen said; "I will either be coutrmarshalled or treated as a war hero. Fire." as he ordered fire on Blücher. An unfortunate shell hit the airfuel storage, and set the ship ablaze. Now that this once stealthy pride, crawling up the fjord disguised by the dark was lighting up the entire capital, the torpedobatteries nearby could launch what they had. The ship ofcourse sank, and is still located at the bottom where oil leaks from the hull and is visible even to this date.

This shock that strook Oslo sent shivers trough all of Norway. Norway tried hard to remain neatural trough this war as well. The Royal family grabbed whatever they could of national treasures and ran away, going north, covered by Norwegian resistance getting even the elite Fallschirmjägers on the retreat, before the Royal family got to Molde and from there to England.

[ Read more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Dr%C3%B8bak_Sound ]

To talk of something else, we can mention Denmark. Denmark, the flat country that borders to Germany capitulated already after six hours. The morning of 9th April, German planes took off from several Danish airports with warsupplies to Norway.

Norway turned out to be a great challenge for Germany, with a widespread population all willing to fight, and one of the roughest terrain in all of Europe. Before Norway capitulated, the Germans started to invade France and the Netherlands. Two months after 9th April, Norway capitulated. The last fighitnig position in Norway was still manned by the Royal Norwegian Army at Hegra Festning, a 1920's hilltop fort. It is said that nearly a thousand Germans died trying to take the hill. When Norway capitulated, the soldiers at Hegra did the same.

The 10th April, an allied expeditionary force consisting of British, French and Polish soldiers, including the 10th D.B.L.E of the French Foreign Legion, went to Narvik to take the iron ore shipment from Germany. This was a success, and was the very first defeat Hitler had during WWII. Many thousand died here, and Germany finally sieged the town again. I'd like to especially say thanks to the Poles who participated in this, when they didn't even have a homecountry anymore.

After the brief introduction, let's kick this GB off!

Norway WWII hosts a very, very wide range of subjects to build... All from ships such as the Blücher, Tirpitz, Bismarck, and thousands of others both US, UK and German... Even Russian at some point. Even Norwegian warships too, and our armed merchant fleet. Norway had the third largest merchant fleet at the time, and much of that was armed during WWII, going from England to Norway and back.
Not to even mention the U-boats Germany had stationed here since they occupied, till the war was ended. Some of the largest U-boat bunkers were built here.

That was only the naval part. You have planes, from the Gloster Gladiators outclassing the BF109 (Yes, I am serious), to JU-52 dropping out Fallschirmjägers (German paratroopers saw their first combat ever in Norway). Even a Mosquito bombing the Gestapo headquarters in Oslo, or a spitfire reconnaisance? You can even do a Lancaster, and even a Horsa glider full of special forces!
In late-war, even a P-51D Mustang dogfights against BF109-G's are possible. Did I mention the B17's too?

As for armour, you had two panzerdivisions in Norway. One left for the Eastern front in summer of 1942, and the other was probably the only panzerdivision ever to use Panzer I tanks from start to end as their main force.
French armour were also inserted in Narvik (The very first defeat Germany had during WWII), and the German prototype Neubaufahrzeug were set into combat-use here. 4 were produced, one stayed in Germany and the other 3 were all scrapped at the end of the war. As a matter of fact, you can EVEN build late-war Russian tanks, as the Russians also invaded North-Norway at the end of the war...

Else of that, you can do the very unknown Police Forces (No police, it was a covername), French Foreign Legion, French army, Russian army, Gestapo, Norwegian resistance (Looked to be one of the firecest during WWII), Royal airforce in all forms and kinds, USAAF, Luftwaffe, the great naval ships, the hundreds, if not a thousand U-boats stationed here.....

After this too long post, you may see the scale of the chaos that happened up here in the North.. Sadly, it is very rarely spoken off!
