The Savage is nice.  That is a plane you don't see every day.  John, you must be Mach 2's best customer!

I just thought I post some Tigercat stuff before I went to the LHS.  I have to get that done before my kids get out of school.

Cheers,

Greg

Greg I'm extremely grateful to you for posting the FSM article on the Tigercat conversion ; Thankyou Sir . Yes

I had a read through the article and the conversion seems straight forward enough , so I went an ordered the Cobra Co. F7F-3N Tigercat conversion set . As well as the Quickboost engines from Hannants as Luckymodel was sold out and I just made my first purchase on ebay for the Monogram 1/72 F7F-3 Tigercat kit .

I picked up some display matting to photograph my finish builds on ...

I already had a faded green grass mat , I thought the sand and gravel ones would be a nice contrast , I also picked up six of those PSP display boards . I'll airbrush them a steel color .

I found a pic of a Korea based F7F-3N Tigercat on the back of one of my reference magazine's ;

I'm thinking of displaying my Tigercat build the same as the pic .

Thank's again Greg for your help with the Tigercat and also to stikpusher for the help on using ebay , I probably have about 90% of all the aircraft that the U.S and Allies operated in Korea in my stash , this is certainly going to be a great project .

Thanks guys!

Love those F7Fs, the Tigercat has to be one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built.

Still gluing PE to the K1A1 here, I've got to run out of little metal bits sooner or later... sheeesshhhh.....

Alright! I finally got some work done on the banshee! I haDunced to pull the fusilage halves apart and fix the cockpit tub  (it wasn't sitting level). I got it all back together puttied and sanded. In my impatience I primed it before taking pics (sorry)!Dunce I have to do some "fine" sanding of areas, but it is looking good. I also pained the landing gear and wheels. I opted for Tamiya Flat aluminum for the gear and Nato Black for the tires.

The kit is primed with Testors grey primer. I plan on adding some wire to the gear bays that are pretty bare of detail. The kit shows "Dark Sea Blue" for the gear bays. I think I might do them in Interior green. Any input is helpful. It seems that most of the A/C have that same color in interior area??????.

Here are some pics. I am working on the H-19 with floats. I have some great reference pics fo that kit. I need to run to the Home Depot for supplies first!

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

Painted the intake flat black. The intake props were painted oiled steel and the exhaust were painted metalic grey.

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

Below is the upper fusilage primed.

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

Lower primed!  As you can see the gear bays are empty of detail!. Hopefull some wire will add enough detail!Eats

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

Here are the rockets and some of the gear painted on the sprue

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

More sprue painting!

 [View:/themes/fsm/utility/Photobucket:550:0]

I am realy ready to dig into the H-19 after this kit! Looks like some real potential for added detail!

So my interest in the Korean war is coming back a bit, but not with the Sabre. I'm going to look into a F-84, Mig15 or M26 Pershing. I will keep you updated.

your Banshee is coming along nicely! I love teh lines of that bird! I sure do wish a new 1/48 would be released!

As far as the landing gear bays go, that is a tough one to call. It was fairly common for the landing gear on overall Sea Blue aircraft to be painted in Sea Blue also. But period pics show waht looks like NMF or aluminum lacquered wheels and struts and dont show the inner faces of the doors or wheel wells.

This link shows a flaking gray paint over zinc chromate with aluminum struts and red inner facing to the gear doors

Stik: Thanks for the pic!!!Yes. I haven't found a realy good pic yet. That looks like "chromate yellow" with grey over top! I think I might try that!  Not to mention it like it better! The cockpit shows chromate green. I will see how it looks. I will have to paint the pylons seperate as the decal goes on first in the academy world!

Ditto that on the Banshee!  Looking good!  I'm glad somebody is giving that plane some love, it deserves it.

Gamera, I am looking forward to the tank.  I'm sure all the p.e. will be worth it.

Cheers,

Greg

Travis , your Banshee is looking good , well done so far Yes

The Monogram F7F-3 Tigercat kit I bought on ebay Australia , yesterday , just arrived at the front door .

I checked through the instructions and parts to see if any  were missing and unfortunatly one of the tail planes is missing . I went to the spares box and found some tail planes left over from the Academy B-17 kits ...

It shouldn't be too difficult to fashion a couple of replacement tail planes .

I sent away my payment this morning for the Cobra Co. F7F-3N conversion set , the set should arrive in a couple of weeks and I printed out the FSM Tigercat conversion article Greg kindly posted , so everything is going along okay . I think I'll build the F3D-2 Skynight , F-4U-5N Night Corsair and F7F-3N Tigercat next , after I finish the current builds on the bench .

Very nice work all!!!  Bow Down

I guess this will be my first post with WIP pics.  Well....here is goes.

Here are the cargo seats

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]

The rear tail section.  Just a small bit of putty was used to smooth the join of the stabilizer fins to the tail boom.

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]

Here is what I have done with the uppersection of the fuselage thus far.  Not much.

[View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]

All painting was done with Model Master enamels.  Thanks.

Well done Kevin Yes

Your H04S-3 is coming along nicely , a little while back fellow FSM member Aaronw suggested the tip about glueing the fuselage halves together ;

Dont worry about trying to keep the two nose sections flush when glueing the fuselage halves toghether , just make sure everything lines up from the rear where it joins the tail section .

You may end up with a small step at the front [nose] but that is easy to sand/file flush .

If you dry fit the fuselage together and hold it up against the tail section , that should give you a good idea as to how things should line up .

Travis, Kevin, Helo- great looking work guys!

Mucker- most of the PE now is the teeny stuff. I haven't posted photos since they really don't stand out much from the photos I posted last time. I'll see about doing a few more though this weekend from different angles though.

Macattack: Here is a link with some really good pics of the H-19. Not sure if all the different variants were the same, but it really brings into question the colors used by Italeri. I would say the interior is a drab green or interior green looking at the pics. The cushions on the bird also appear to be black?!! Your bird is coming along nicely. I was actually suprised at the detail. I had always questioned Italeri, I haven't been disapointed with the detail on a kit yet!

Thanks Helo.  I really appreciate the encouragement and information.  It does make sense to make sure the more complex section of the fuselage lines up better.

Gamera, thanks for good words.

Travis,  the link isn't in your post.  If you get a chance could you post the link?  I appreciate the information.  I don't know a whole lot about this particular helicopter.  The kit is quite detailed for a 1/72 scale kit.  IMHO.  The rumor is that Italeri are the helicopter kings and this kit helps prove that.

Here is a link to a review of this particular kit.  http://www.modelingmadness.com/scotts/korean/us/usmc/ho4s.htm

Thanks again all.

A small Pershing update...

I covered all parts in Alclad primer to prime the PE bits and blend it all together.  Then I covered everything with a black/brown undercoat.  Next up, I shall begin the OD green!

Not a lot of progress to report on my F9F-5P Panther, as I have been struggling with some paint issues on a NMF GB II build (B-36).  Since the Panther will also have some NMF, I've been working on both kits at the same time.  The Panther is just about ready for paint, which I expect will come Monday.

Another beautiful build John! You are turning out more aircraft now than Douglas in WWII it seems! Wink

Seriously though, when this is all over and done with I would love to see a pic of all your builds posed together in one shot if such a thing is possible!

Pepperkay I will add you to the roster. Welcome aboard!Welcome Sign Which kit is your F-80 and what scale is it?

I was going to use the Czech Model T-33 and cut it down, but was able to make a trade for their P-80 at my LHS ...

Scale Aviation Modeller International  new issue features the F-80 and T-33 ... haven't opened the plastic envelope to review as yet as I'm saving it all for after dinner :-) ...

I'll send some photos after I get going and keep all up to date with progress reports ...

Thanks,

Great looking work so far guys, awesome GB idea too. I'll be keeping an eye on this for sure.

I was eyeballing a Korean War P-51 by Tamiya last time I was at Hobby Lobby, this might inspire me to do it. I just did a P-51 and I fell back in love with the plane and I've discovered Alcad, and how easy it really is to use... now I really want to do that Mustang.

There are some that call me... Nash

Here's a bit of an update on the 1/72 Italeri C-47 Transport ;

The fuselage halves are ready to close up and the wings are glued and clamped

There's a couple of nice pilots for the cockpit...

There has been a bit more progress on the 1/72 Airfix Short Sunderland III Flying Boat ;

The fusalge halves are also ready to glue together , the wings have been glued and clamped also .

There is not a lot of interior detail but a couple of pilots for the cockpit and a gunner for the nose turret...

There are also a couple of gunners for the dorsal and tail guns as well ...

I'll glue the fuselage halves together next on both builds and put them aside to dry .

I'm a little slow getting some of the other builds into the spray booth , the PBM-5 Mariner , two H03S-1 dragonfly's , two F4U-4B Corsair's , two PB-1W Fortress's and a F-80C are all waiting to be masked ;

Hopfully these next couple of days , I can complete the masking and get busy airbrushing .
